How many OF/DH does a team need? Maybe they'll give Springer back.
speaking of George...time flies

2023 will be year 3 of his 6-year contract with Toronto

could definitely see him back in Houston for the last year or year & a half of that deal

But why? That's the worst part of the deal.

The prospect is younger and showed better in his debut, but why wouldn't we have sent Lee/Diaz plus a few more pieces for him?

I'm not giving up **** for a .235 hitter

Good for you. Clearly the rest of baseball values him differently.

George Springer may have been a HOF without injuries and the shortened Covid season.

His 162 game stats compare very favorably to Dave Winfield, Harold Baines, and even Al Kaline, despite the disparity in career lengths

How does this news relate?

Obviously just joking and speculative but it wouldn't shock me either

Because Yuli's little bro is part of the deal. That wasn't posted on here before.

I don't get that trade
The Blue Jays think they're #2 in the division behind the Yankees and are dumb enough to think that more offense is going to get them to the World series.

The Diamondbacks DGAF and want to know if you want to buy any of their last remaining merchandise from the 2001 World Series.

I'm convinced some teams are just like fantasy sport owners and just get so bored that they need to make a trade.

Apparently Moreno is a much bigger time prospect.

And interest in one thing. We clearly weren't dumb enough to unload valuable prospects for a 235 hitter .. thank GOD by the way

Several people. Do you think they're all lying?

You can disagree with the value, but the Astros clearly were willing to give up something for him.

I'm also glad we didn't break the bank for him.

The whole ".235 hitter" is pretty annoying too. Plenty of good players have low BA. Buxton, Rizzo, Schwarber, O'Neal Cruz, Chapman, Muncy, etc. it's almost like BA doesn't tell the whole story.

Moreno is already pretty good and should be a top tier catcher for years to come. A little surprised that Gurriel was the piece they wanted added as he is a free agent in 2 years and D-backs don't seem to be contending in that frame.

Maybe they will deal Carson Kelly now.

They will probably flip him to someone else eventually.

He was so bad the LAD left him off their playoff roster and now Philly is paying him $10MM for a season.

because (1) the Blue Jays may be in fire sale mode after Vlad jr goes elsewhere following the 2025 season

and (2) they may be willing to pick up some of George's $24 MM salary.

and (3) Tucker, well, we don't know where he will be in 2026 --- Astros might need a 1-year veteran fill-in
W

also Bo Bichette is a free agent after the 2025 season.

Toronto could be in mega-fire sale mode if they both leave

I have mixed feelings, and if we could have gotten him for the right price them I would really celebrate the deal. Varsho, if we could make him be #2 catcher and/or late inning relief catcher (think double-switch), in addition to near-everyday rotating OF, he would have been a tremendous get. But, I'm not sure how much of a catcher future he has in him, or if he wants to be a catcher, and him filling that role frees up another roster spot, and that's a big part of his value to the Astros. But in analyzing him you also have to consider he's a Lefty, with power, runs very well, above average OF in all three OF positions, all-around good tool to have in the toolbox. A .235 average is a mostly insignificant stat when measuring his value to the Astros. If he goes to the Jays or anywhere else as strictly an OF then I can see how he does not have as much appeal.

You would think teams would do the physical and their due diligence first before announcing the contract. And that all that would be handled behind closed doors.

Bunch of dumbasses. It makes them look bad. It makes the player look bad.

They can get physicals before hand. This is fan push back or something else. Crazy that the mets are all on a 40 yr old pitcher after TJ but are getting cold feet on Correa.

10+ year contracts make no sense. Especially with someone that has the potential to be injury prone.

Something doesn't pass the smell test. The Giants GM is a former Astro. He knew all about Correa's 2014 break. Boras sent all the past MRIs to teams that were interested… or at least I assume so. That's what Dallas said on Baseball is Dead. I also assume Boras and Cohen spoke about whatever the issues was in SF. How wouldn't it come up in negotiations?

Something is up. I wonder if we'll get the full story.
Mathguy64

I can't imagine it's fans. They have an owner willing to spend anything it takes to buy any player. All in NY. What fan would be mad at that?

I can't imagine it's the length of the contract given Lindor and Diaz are already on insanely long ones.

I really wonder what this is.
Ag_07

I assume this all goes down kinda like buying real estate.

You agree to terms, execute some kinda contract, then you get a window to do your due diligence before the contract gets finalized.

Which is why I think the Mets jumped figuring they could agree to terms then get their time to check him out in detail and could nix it if they were concerned.
