So I was able to go to game 2 yesterday thanks to a buddy who wanted to go and bought tickets. I bought him a jersey in return along with all the beer and food. I actually think I came out behind on that agreement lol.
First we had parking. I chose the lot at 1501 Franklin Street which worked out just fine in the beginning. It cost $84 with tax so not cheap. We arrived at 5pm and had no issues getting in the gate as we beat the big crowd although there were quite a few already there. They gave everyone free rally towels so that's why you see all the orange flags people were waving on tv
We were in section 408 so while up there high, the view was just fine. Since we arrived early we walked all around inside the stadium a couple times checking out all the food and beer places. My buddy smokes but once you are inside, there is no smoking anywhere. You will have to leave the stadium and the only way back in is to buy another ticket. I am not a food connoisseur so if you want to know the best places to eat, I'd say any of them lol.
At 5:30 the stores selling astros gear inside werealready jammed with a wait line. We didn't go in them as we already had our jerseys. We bought his at Academy beforehand and I already had mine from my last trip there to a game.
Beer was expensive to say the least. Bought a couple bud lights first and spent over $30 on them. Afterwards we found they had the 25oz cans for around $19 each. Maybe that was a better deal? We bought a couple basic hot dogs and that also totaled about $34 for both of them. I knew it would be expensive but I still hate being raped like that. We did buy some other Crawford sausage dogs later in somewhere but by that point the beers were kicking in.
Wow what a game! Couldn't ask for a better start so the crowd was immediately into it. The gentleman selling beer and peanuts in our section was great! At one point when he was getting low on peanuts he holler's out "does anyone want deez nuts?!" and most of the section laughed.
The in game experience is much better than watching it on tv since you don't get to see or hear the walk up songs, sing take me out to the ball game etc. A lot of foul balls get hit in the sections somewhat behind home plate in the 2-300 levels and is probably the best places to be to try for a game ball.
When the game was over, leaving was fairly easy getting out of the stadium. The highlight of walking back to the parking lot is we had people dropping beers to us on the ground from around 5 stories up. Evidently we passed by some townhomes or something but at that point I already had plenty to drink and wasn't paying too much attention to my location. All I saw was beer being dropped and instincts kicked in. I attempted to catch 2 beers. They were natty light but since it was free I wasn't complaining. I don't know how many they had but i watched about a dozen other fools try to catch them.
So we make it back to the parking lot and I smell like beer since I attempted to drink out of a crushed can that hit the sidewalk due to my failed hand/eye coordination abilities. My buddy is smoking so we are just hanging out at the truck waiting for traffic to die down. Out of the blue all of a sudden the street was filled with a bunch of people on bicycles riding right down the streets blocking any cars. My buddy yelled to get in the truck! He use to work downtown and said it was some kind of gang or something and wanted to stay out of sight. It looked pretty cool seeing as they had lights and such. When they finally cleared, I cranked up the truck when people on atv's rode into our parking lot blocking one of the entrances. My buddy said "oh crap" so I floored it out of there to a different exit. Not sure what was going on but I wasn't going to stay and find out. By that point it was around midnight I think.
After that we went to a club called numbers and finished out the night. Not my cup of tea really but he wanted to go.
The whole game experience was fantastic and I am seriously thinking about going to game 6 if it goes that far. Tickets in the 400 level were $600 or higher per person.
