The schedule plan for 2023 is:

14 games vs each divisional opponent (56)
6 games vs other 10 league opponents (60)
Interleague: 4 games vs 1 rival team, 3 games vs 14 other teams (46)

Now that the DH is here, I like that a team will play every team in MLB.

Let's assume we have 30 teams, and even if Oakland relocates, it's Vegas, Portland, or somewhere West of the Mississippi.

Should MLB stick with the 2 league, 6 division model? Should it go back to a 2 league, 2 division model?

Did you mean 2 league, 4 divisions (E-W) like it was from 1969-1993? I'd prefer that, honestly, but that worked better when there was no interleague play.

The 1993 NL West was probably the last great pennant race we'll see...Giants won 103 games and stayed home.

That aside...if each league is 15 each, that's an 8-7 division split. If a schedule where everyone plays everyone is the target, that's tricky to make the math work.

With 30 teams, I think the 2023 schedule format is about the best that could be done and keep it reasonably balanced with everyone playing everyone.

I don't even watch baseball anymore, but if I did, I would want the Rangers to be in a division where they didn't play so many damn games on the west coast.

With no regard to current alignment or history... just totally blowing it up and keeping proximity and time zones in account where possible, because I hate West Coast game times.

  • St Louis
  • Houston
  • Atlanta
  • Tampa Bay
  • Miami

NL Central (shame on the Rangers for not winning this division!)
  • Texas

  • Colorado
  • Arizona
  • Seattle

NL West
  • San Fran
  • Oakland/LV
  • LA Dodgers
  • LA Angels
  • San Diego

AL North East

Add two teams

Relocate two teams.

This would eliminate the AL/NL, but it's all done geographically. Eliminating the leagues would mean a standard tournament bracket for playoffs, which I am all for.

Dissolve the A's and the Marlins.
Move the Expos back to Montreal
Rename Cleveland the Indians and tell the haters to **** off.

Turn inter-league play back into something really unique and special, 4 series a year against another division - 2 away, 2 home.

Swap the Astros back to the NL and the Brewers back to the AL.

AL West
Rangers
Mariners
Angels
Twins
Royals
White Sox
Tigers

AL East
Yankees
Blue Jays
Red Sox
Orioles
Rays
Indians
Brewers

NL East
Mets
Expos
Phillies
Pirates
Cardinals
Cubs
Braves

NL West
Reds
Astros
Dodgers
Giants
Padres
Diamondbacks
Rockies

2 Division winners, 2 wild cards. That's it.
Feels so good, feelin' good again.

I read this and thought I had time warped back to 1972.

All you Astros fans don't care about moving teams in and out of divisions and leagues, but the rest of us like things the way they are…
