Classy move by the A's. Elvis has quietly been one of the better hitters in baseball since the AS break. Hope he can find a spot on a contender.

If JD was still around, he would probably sign Elvis and try to make a starting pitcher out of him.

The A's don't want to pay Elvis' $15 million player option for 2023 if he reaches 550 plate appearances for the season. He is at 386 PA with 45 games left.

Yep, my thought as well when I saw the news. They mentioned it during one of the recent Elvis ab's against the Rangers, and speculated if the A's would continue to play him down the stretch.

my guess is so he can play every day, and hopefully stay healthy and get some AB's in. They also want Duran and Smith to play at lot too, so maybe leave him at AAA until the September callups (rules changed, but you still get a few extra spots... don't recall the specifics)?

I'd be fine with chopping an aging vet or two and bringing up Jung anyway. Let him play 3B some, and DH on the days he isn't playing 3B. Plus a little time at 1B as well.

I read somewhere that in the new CBA, if a player finishes in the top 2-3 in rookie of the year voting, a team gains an extra draft pick. In order for Jung to maintain eligibility as a rookie he needs to remain under 130 ABs or 45 days on the active roster. They may be waiting until there are less than 45 days remaining to call him up for that purpose (I don't know when that date is.)

Saw this posted on a Rangers page getting more specific.

As big a fan as I am of Mike Shildt as the Rangers new manager, part of me wants Joe Espada just to watch the meltdown to our south.

I do want to say this.

Ray Davis and Bob Simpson are complicit in where this team is today. After paying too much in 2010 and spending as required to try and continue the championship runs, they clamped down in 2017 and played a big role in driving them to where they are today.

No doubt Daniels needed to go, but seeing what Ray Davis said sounded a bit self serving.

The owners also signed off on building a terrible ballpark. It's a special events center first and a ballpark second.

Maybe it's fine for those in the good seats, but for those of us in the cheap seats it's just not very enjoyable. Always feel completely detached from what is happening on the field.

Would not shock me to see guys like Calhoun and Culberson get the axe so Jung can get the call.

We have a lot of flexibility, but I'd like to see

1B - Lowe
2B - Semien
SS - Seager
3B - Smith
LF - Thompson
CF - Taveras
RF - Garcia
C - Heim
DH - Jung

I got news for you... the vision for Globe Life Field was not just for baseball. We do host many events year round, and those events give this organization a ton of residual income outside of baseball games and tv revenues. Those types of revenues play a part in being able to pay half a billion to 2 players

I walked all over the ballpark Saturday evening on every level with my small son who just wanted to walk around, all the way to the tip top seat. I remember thinking to myself even the cheap seats aren't that bad from a viewing standpoint but I hadn't been to a game in a long time. I also don't count Saturday as having gone to the game, because I chased a barely 4 year old around the whole time.

That's a nice way of saying that the average fan experience is degraded so owners can make more money. It's a trend across all sports, not just the Rangers.

Even given those trends they still could've done something better with it. They made their decisions on the ball park and I have every right as a fan to my opinion on it.

For me I will be going to less games because the experience just isn't there for the types of seats that I purchase. I'm just one fan and it won't make a difference to them, but whatever.

I used to be able to hear the ball hit the glove and the crack of the bat on a hard hit ball. I could hear that even in the third deck of the old ballpark. Can't hear that in the cheap seats now. Even the great Chuck Morgan's voice doesn't feel right in this ball park.

I've tried to give it a chance and sat in different sections, but the visuals and sounds just make me seem so disconnected from the field. All the money in word to buy players can't replace the memories that I have from the old ballpark and how baseball used to be experienced.

It was time for Daniels to go. He had probably been living off of those World Series appearances for too long. Those were a decade ago.

The only time I've been in the ballpark was joining my dad and brother for a TCU/Oklahoma baseball game back in February/March some time. I thought it was absolutely great and unfortunately haven't been able to go to a Rangers game yet.

The problem I have with the ballpark are the field level suites right behind home plate. Most non-season ticket holders watch the vast majority of the games on TV. The TV viewing experience should be the "front porch" or "curb appeal" of a baseball club. It should be inviting and make you upset you weren't there at the game to experience it. 95% of the TV time is spent looking at those field level suites and it makes it look corporate and screams "lack of atmosphere".

Everything else about the stadium looks amazing, but when that backdrop dominates my viewing experience it somehow takes away any desire I have to go see a game live.

Daniels got lazy after they pushed Nolan out…

Still think Nolan is due more credit for the WS appearances than JD…

Welcome to modern sports. It's the way everything is trending.

I went to my first Rangers game in '75. Arlington Stadium was a dump. I loved watching games on TV in the new Ballpark when it opened in the 90s, and I have great memories of it. But I was glad to see the team move under a roof.....I can't enjoy watching a game in mid-90s (or worse) heat.

For me, I'll gladly sacrifice a bit of the old ambience for comfort. Quite frankly, the cost of a ticket is too high to sit there a sweat your a$$ off and the new park removes that from the equation.

I've quit listening to complaints about the new stadium. It's beautiful and a great place to watch a game.

If you have problems with asthetics or the look of the field or whatever, too bad. The vast majority of Ranger fans love the new place. And it will help us be more competitive due to more $ for the club.

I will probably only go to a game or two a year now, but that's about it. The ticket packages that I used to get with the Rangers I have now bought with the Stars. I enjoy going to Stars games over the Rangers even though it's a much further drive.

I'm just one dude, so it won't matter to the Rangers organization and that's fine. The ownership group has made their choices and I've made mine.

Daniels got the axe because he had too many misses through the last 2 "rebuild" cycles.

But this "Nolan was the brainchild" stuff always amuses me.

Texas made the playoffs on the backs of these players:

Josh Hamilton - trade by Daniels, before Ryan
Nelson Cruz - trade by Daniels, before Ryan
Elvis Andrus - trade by Daniels, before Ryan
Matt Harrison - trade by Daniels, before Ryan
Derek Holland - draft by Daniels, before Ryan
Neftali Feliz - trade by Daniels, before Ryan

Ian Kinsler - before Ryan
CJ Wilson - before Ryan

Cliff Lee - Nolan is one of the reasons Texas didn't give him the extra year he wanted (that Philly gave him). That's not to say he didn't help orchestrate the trade, but not sure I've seen anything that would give him more credit than Daniels on it.

Adrian Beltre - Nolan had been on the record multiple times about not wanting to give long contracts out to players as they enter their twilight, so again I seriously doubt he was pushing for this acquisition.

So that leaves you with Mike Napoli and Vlad Guerrero... Two guys that I haven't seen anything to indicate Nolan Ryan was key in landing them

So if you want to make the case that what Daniels did in forming the 2010 and 2011 team wasn't all that impressive, fine... But to say it was somehow Nolan Ryan that was the driving force behind it... That's just fan fiction.

I love the new place, the biggest negative against it is you can see the old stadium you love.
I think there is something a little off with either the lighting or the shade of green they use, I cant quite put my finger on it.

The gameday experience is great, great line of sight, air conditioning is awesome.,

Agreed wholeheartedly. In some ways Ryan was detrimental to the club, unless you like shots of stern-looking old white dudes sitting in the stands.

JD did a lot of good things for us but the last of those moves are getting close to be a full decade ago. It was time for him to go. I also don't buy that JD was instrumental in our rebuild either, basically all the pieces as I see them now were gotten when CY came aboard

Yep. I complain and call it out.

It is what it is. 81 baseball games. 365 days. That's 284 days that are NOT baseball.

For every baseball game that is already committed... GLF can host 3 additional functions. It can absolutely be a money machine. The hotel, the food venues.

Will they use it for their riches or will they develop a perennial winner?! Time will tell.

Hicks soured me. Hicks isolated the parking lots and surrounding areas into separate LLCs. When the team went into bankruptcy and he gave up the team, he retained much of the parking revenue. Part of it had to do with, IIRC, the requirement that teams had to spend a certain percentage of revenue on players salaries. By carving off those areas, it showed less revenue and thus less salary.

There is no reason the Rangers can't/won't do the same. We'll see. They spent half a billion on 2 players and are still significantly below where they should be.
