They were talking on the Ticket about some research report showing that once you get to the MLB level, hand eye coordination isn't the separator. Everyone has talent (and oddly enough something like 99% of guys had better than 20/20 vision as well). It was experience and being a better guesser at the pitch that was coming. So until most get enough experience and learning pitch tendencies, they actually are pretty much guessing.

Left Alexy in after giving up a hit and a walk and then another walk with no outs. He seriously has no feel for his pitchers when it's obvious to anyone with any clue they need to be yanked. Alexy getting through 2 with no runs would've been ideal but nope he had to try and stretch it to 3.

Alexy looked pretty good in the 2 innings prior. Why take him out? Hindsight is always 20/20 I suppose

Unfortunately this is a team that's still 2 years away from being a significant AL contender.

Silver lining is the young guys continue to look great (minus Huff). I had never even heard of Hernandez till he was called up the other day. Having him, Leody and Garcia in the OF is tuff to beat defensively.

I guess it will come down to SP. Martin Perez has given every indication he'd like to stay here. And by every indication, he says this feels like home tom him. How they handle him will give me every indication if the Rangers have finally committed to winning or if they just continue to fools the fans with one-off FA signings.

I've always like Perez. I've been following him since his days in Spokane, where he was the 2nd youngest pitcher to ever play in the NWL (at the time). 2nd to Felix Hernandez. He was 17 and 4 years younger than the avg. It was a league that many college players drafted in June go to play after being drafted.

So, we could have Perez (#7 in AL ERA, 2.68) and Gray (#19 in AL ERA, 3.71) leading the way with Dunning #29, 4.42 ERA) eating innings.

I don't know if Glenn Otto is a guy to keep, but I'm convinced Hearn isn't one.

Even if Cole Winn (22) and Jack Leiter (22) make the rotation in 2023... neither will perform as well as Perez.
Winn is struggling in AAA (5.93 ERA, 6.1 BB/9). I think both can be contributors in 2023, but agree they are looking more like 2024 pitchers. Ragans (24) is another to keep an eye on. Can Spencer Howard (25) finally put it together?

If the Rangers extend Perez, then they have every intention of playing to win. IF the Rangers don't extend Perez, you are correct, they are planning on 2024... which mean never.

I expect the Rangers to spend on pitching this off season. If a good OF bat is available, they might go that route as well, but I would imagine the moves they will make are on the pitching side.

Signing Perez to an extension makes a ton of sense. He wouldn't be ridiculously expensive, and they can land a top of the rotation guy via trade or FA, he makes a great #3.

Because his team is awful….and somebody else will pay him similarly.

Soto is clearly less interested in $$ than winning, which is admirable in a way. He knows that he's going to get a huge payday, why not get it from a contender as opposed to a struggling team that is up for sale.

Would be great to have him, but I doubt we'll be contenders (for his next contract I mean...I think we'll be a contending team but I doubt he takes that chance)

I wouldn't say he's less interested in money. Scott Boras is his agent after all. The total value is huge, but it's less than $30 mill per year while 15 guys are already making more on a per season basis. And with how salaries are escalating, we're probably not far from $40 mill per season being the new $30. I have a feeling they think they can still get him $400 mill for closer to 10 years.
