I'd be fine with it if they used it in the 12th and on. Starting it in the 10th is moronic.

I hate it. Runner on 2nd with no outs is an insanely tough position for a pitcher to work around. Hell, you could theoretically do your job successfully and still lose if you allowed 2 fly ball outs.

We already knew this but man our pitching is bad bad. Rockies had at least two baserunners in 8 innings. I'd actually take Rick sHelling on this staff.

What I wonder is if there's proof the zombie works? Yet to see definitive data.

It wasn't the pitching. It was the defense.

We lost 2 out of our 3 losses because of defense.

Uhh the pitching is nowhere approaching blameless.

Wait a second... I see Semien on second base. Does that mean that you lose who would be your leadoff batter to begin the inning? If so I EXTRA hate this stupid rule. Don't know why it didn't dawn on me earlier. Probably because the Rangers were rarely in extra innings last year.......

https://www.mlb.com/glossary/rules/slide-rule

Quote:

Slide Rule

Definition

When sliding into a base in an attempt to break up a double play, a runner has to make a "bona fide slide." Such is defined as the runner making contact with the ground before reaching the base, being able to reach the base with a hand or foot, being able to remain on the base at the completion of the slide (except at home plate) and not changing his path for the purpose of initiating contact with a fielder. The slide rule prohibits runners from using a "roll block" or attempting to initiate contact with the fielder by elevating and kicking his leg above the fielder's knee, throwing his arm or his upper body or grabbing the fielder.

Accidental contact can occur in the course of a permissible slide, and a runner will not be called for interference if contact is caused by a fielder being in the runner's legal pathway to the base.
I'm guessing the bolded part is why they called it. I don't think that play met the intent of the rule.

MLB: How can we make our game more watchable and fun?

Someone: End four hour games on a nit picky slide rule.

seems like 2nd base ump should be fired if he is so incorrect on the only thing he had to do there.....

I think that final call came from the replay booth and had nothing to do with the umps on the field. But I could be wrong.

you are correct...but on that play.... his job is to make sure the out is completed correctly.... then the runners slide..... apparently he was so wrong in his slide watching that replay felt the need to overturn him.... umps know this rule by now..... so this umps interpretation is so wrong that he really cant function on the field.

He is saying if this review is the correct call, that the ump standing 4 ft away should be fire. That is his only thing to look at on the play, and he got it wrong (according to replay)

I know what he's saying but it is a dumb take.

Guess an ump should be fired if he calls a ball a strike or if he calls a runner safe when the throw beat him by half a step.

More accurately, if an ump is missing calls that clear often, they should be fired. No?

If they start making too many bad calls or missed calls absolutely but not one play.

Im not gonna go back and forth on this..... so, this isnt a missed strike or a bang bang play at first..... this is application of a rule so incorrect that replay felt the need to overturn the call made.
Proposition Joe
How long do you want to ignore this user?
"Being able to remain on the base at the completion of the slide" was the deciding factor.
