At least our games look like they will be fun to watch this year!

Much better than last year. Find two solid pitchers and this team can compete.
Agreed

Yeah, not a fan. He uses the GONNNNNNNNU with great emphasis.....even when we are down 8 runs and someone hits a solo shot.

I dont even mind that. Its the Dave South-esque ho hum ho hum ho hum GONNNNNNE!

Ball can be absolutely crushed and he waits until it has hit the seats to register even a slightly higher octave.

I don't think Raymond is a bad dude but I long for the days that we have a new play by play announcer. He just isn't close to being good

I'm going to pile on as well. I've never liked Raymond, and I'm not wild about Nitkowski either, although he's grown on me some.

My favorite TV broadcast team from Ranger's history remains the Steve Busby/Jim Sundberg pairing, which was in the late 80s I believe. I thought they did a really good job and, both being former players, offered a lot of insight & humor that made the broadcasts fun to watch. Busby came back to do some games years later, but he had lost a lot, and made a lot of mistakes. But back in the day, for me at least, they were awesome.

Welp, 0-162 still in play.

Woohoo this is officially dead. Now 1-161 is in play though.

Tom and Josh were the best TV crew.

Some us remember the '90s.

Like '98 - SHelling (4.41), Sele (4.23), Burkett (5.68), Loaiza (5.90), Oliver (6.53), Bobby Witt (7.66)

When SHelling is your Ace... bad things happen.
If I remember the radio (I think it was Randy Galloway) saying, "Sele and Helling and wait for the shelling." Or something like that.

Toronto is really good. Salvaging the one game is just fine. Let's beat Colorado's ass tomorrow.

BTW - rangers were so good last year Yankees are starting four of our guys tonight - Gallo, Donaldson, IKF and Trevino.

Pretty sure Donaldson didn't play for the Rangers last year but point taken. I've noticed they like our players.

Dang it - I thought Odor was playing for them, remembered he was in Baltimore and thought Donaldson. Brain fart.

Not too long ago, the orioles were where the rangers cast offs usually ended up.

I like CJ because he does good explanations of advanced metrics and some of the operational nuances that fans might not be aware.

Yeah she's getting pretty old and worn looking. They should just bring in an all new tv crew. Restart it from top to bottom.

I like CJ. Insightful and decent sense of humor. Dave Raymond is not good. Find a good PBP and that's a solid booth.

So anyone want to talk about the complete change in philosophy at the plate? Seems that situational awareness is making a comeback for the organization. And I for one am glad to see it change from the swing out of your shoes every pitch approach.

You mean like when South would calmly call a 40 yard gain, but then a 3 yard gain went something like:

Ball on the Aggie 35 yard line....BIG HOLE!! They bring him down at the 38 yard line!!

Yes. The offseason signings, particularly numero uno signing on Seager, indicated this change was coming. When you look at which MLB teams scored the most runs last year, #1 and #3 in runs scored were #1 and #2 in fewest K's. 4 of the top 5 teams in runs scored were in the better half of the league in fewest K's. These are not coincidences. You cannot sustain consistent run production each night when your lineup is full of guys conducting a parade of dejected post-K walks back to the dugout interrupted by an occasional HR (most likeiy with no one on base) every 5-10 games

Having an almost completely new lineup from last year helps a lot

That was Jeff Banister style baseball.

JD implemented throughout the organization. The hiring of Banister was placing a guy who followed the philosophy into the role.

I have no idea if there's any basis for this or why I feel like this, but it doesn't matter how good we are or how bad the opponent is. I always feel like we're going to lose when we play @Oak, @Toronto, and @ChiSox. I'll gladly take one of three.

Gotta say I hate seeing JD as the what seems like the face of the front office still. Feels like every time I see Chris Young, JD is there too. He deserved to get fired for his role in getting us into the mess we're hopefully starting to climb out of

With the exception of a few games last year, we always seem to lose in Oakland. Toronto was our worst road series of the season last year even tho the games were actually in buffalo. It does seem like we always lose to the white Sox in Chicago and have been swept out of there many times. The only time we do well in Chicago is when we have a playoff caliber team.
