Pretty impressive how quick after the last out that the support staff went to work. Almost immediately they opened the outfield wall and started wheeling in the stage.

The real advantage for Phillies is that Nola would now be available for a Game 7. But hey still have to pitch Syndagaard or some other scrub like Kyle Gibson in Game 5. Astros can end this before Game 7 to negate any advantage this rain gave them. As others pointed out, it helped us also to get McCullers playing without a rain delay.

I didn't see if posted yet, so don't hate me if it was.

Looking at the total accumulated rainfall in Philly last night, they received less than .2" last night during the hours the game would've been played. Ridiculous.

.

Forecasting the weather tends to be much easier after the fact. But I think they felt they had to make the decision before the game rather than the morning after, so that was the issue.

Several said it on here that it wasn't enough rain to push the series.

I'm not upset about the decision to postpone game 3 in a vacuum. I don't think that had a big advantage attached to it either way.

From there, the decision to keep the travel day instead of scheduling five in a row was a big help to Philly. The fewer opportunities for rest, the more advantage goes to the team with quality pitching depth. We significantly outclass them in that phase of the game. Our normal pen goes 1-2 deeper than them and we've got guys like Brown, Garcia and Urquidy just sitting around. They don't have anything close to that.

Hopefully it doesn't matter. We've still got a comfortable edge over them in pitching. IMO keeping the travel day just gave Philly a better chance if the series ends up going long (relative to omitting the travel day).

I think we all agree we're the better team. I wouldn't trade our bats, arms, or gloves for theirs. But this is baseball. It's already a bit of a crapshoot. We saw how 2019 went. I hate giving up any edge that we've earned based on how our team and roster were assembled. As often as we've been to the World Series lately we've become a little spoiled. But we all know what the long drought feels like. We're not immune to it happening again. That is why it's so important to win it all this year. Do I think the chance of Nola pitching a 3rd game or their BP getting extra rest will make the difference in the series? No, but that doesn't mean it won't.

postponing the game was a net wash for the astros. No doubt it helps the phils though.

So, hypothetically speaking, if we are up 3-1 we are comfortable pitching JV in game 5 (on a very short leash) right? Or would you pitch someone else and save JV for game 6?

JV is starting game 5. he is the best option.

I've seen this or something similar posed a few times. I can't quite get my head around it. What benefit is there to saving JV for game 6? Who would start game 5?

Bingo. If you have an opportunity to win the series, why wouldn't you go for it?

Exactly. We went into the World Series much better prepared than Philly to deal with the scenario of having to play five straight and our reward for that was stripped.

It's impossible to know how the backroom discussions went but I'm guessing our reps advocated to omit the travel day and Philly reps advocated to keep it. Rightfully so.

Manfred sided with Philly, despite the fact that it meant game 7 (if necessary) now has to go up against Sunday night football. Very telling.

I'm honestly just spit balling here. I will say this, if the series is 2-2 going into Thursday, I am NOT happy about JV pitching a massive game 5, and Dusty better have him on the shortest of leashes

Regardless of the series standing, here are the options I would assume.

A - Normal
JV
Framber
McCullers / Javier on short rest

B - Push back
Garcia / Urquidy
JV
Framber / McCullers

C - Replace JV
Garcia / Urquidy
Framber
McCullers / Javier on short rest

Even with JV's struggles, for me, option A is the best.

100% agree it's gotta be a quick pull if there is trouble.

Agreed. Gotta go JV with a quick hook in game five. If he gets in trouble, then dial up Brown, Garcia and Urquidy in some order until you find one with a hot hand. Then ride it.

Some of us need to get the **** over the rain out.

It's RAIN.

For MLB and Fox, the only thing worse than a rainout is starting the game at 8 EST, then having it get stopped in the third inning because it starts pouring, and then it's 11:30 when you finally start back up and your TV rating goes to **** because the game ends at 1:30 a.m..

Or it keeps raining and raining and you have to halt the game in the 5th inning and start it up it tomorrow and make up half a game at 2 p.m. where nobody can come to the game, and then risk Game 3 going extra innings and trying to start Game 4 two hours after Game 3 ends, except now you don't have **** for pitching on either side and it turns into a 13-9 garbage game that isn't indicative of either team's ability.

Is Rob Manfred conspiring with the National Weather Service to screw over the Astros? Rob Manfred LOVES when the Astros are good because people watch the games because they want to see us GET BEAT. Just like the Cowboys in the Super Bowl. You either love the 10,000-pound gorilla or you want to watch them get their asses beat.

If you're so convinced that 24 hours of extra rest on some guy's arm makes the 87-75 Phillies so much better than the 106-56 Astros, why the hell did we even play the regular season?

urquidy has not pitched since 10/3 and that was just 2 innings. I don't think we see him unless we are up big or down big

Kinda beside the point in my view. It's not about who starts game 7. It's about who eats innings for the entirety of games 3-7 and which staff is more likely to be wearing down by the end of the series. To me, that would have been big advantage Astros.
