I haven't seen much evidence that Vasques is much better offensively. Besides, Maldy is due for a hit, which will probably be a homer.

His stats are significantly better offensively this season.

Not really since becoming an Astro. I think he has like two extra base hits since the trade. Last 15/30 games he has an ops of .569 / .618 vs Maldy's .749 / .567.

I would say he has been marginally better since the trade. Hasn't done much to force his way into the lineup.

Both Trey and Yuli are getting playing time though. I think with Yuli you expect him to hit better than his earlier stats this season. And he's now done well the last few months. There is no such indication for Maldy, who is a poor hitter for his career

He was acquired so we would not have to rely on a rookie as a back up. I think that most of the staff is just far more comfortable with Machete behind the plate than Vazquez.
