Dubon, Taylor, James... there's a way to save a bit of cash. I assume Taylor will be back, though, as the token lefty so Dusty can do it like 1974 in his expected return.

Call it what you want. The increase from guys from pre Arb to Arb is going to heavily impact our payroll.

Right now Yuli, Brantley, Smith, Montero, & Verlander are coming off the books. Just quick math in my head that's ~55 M. We're not going to have 55 M go spend if Crane wants to keep payroll the same. We're going to eat up 20-30 M in guys getting raises from Arb and other contracts.

The odds of us going out and signing JV, a stud 1B, & and plus LF are looking unlikely. We're going to have to make cuts somewhere.

Not really. Maton is going up a million. Stanek a million. James isnt going up at all. Dubon $400k. I get the others went up, but those Arb numbers are not crazy money. And I am not sure Urquidy will be back. I would not be shocked to see him used as trade bait. The real question is do they try and lock Framber up and try again with Tucker. I expect they will try and I expect they will turn it down. Tucker certainly will. And then do we really try and resign JV. Those are the big $$ questions. These 9 and these amounts are chicken feed in the scheme of things.

Bregman's big pay increase hits next year as well. He goes from $12M to $30M.

Pressly's also goes up to $14M from $10M.

Yordan as well. Goes up to $7M from $765K

That means we have around 26 M is money to spend if we keep payroll close. If we want to expand payroll, great, but we don't have a ton of money to fill holes. So apparently Chapman told the Jankees that he would only show up to the mandatory workout if he was guaranteed a playoff roster spot.

The Jankess couldn't give him a definitive answer so he stayed in Miami to which the Jankess responded with "cool, just stay there then"

I think we agree and arent talking about the same thing. That tweet with those 9 players are a drop in the bucket. Almost all the increased payroll is going to Yordan, Bregman and Pressly and they arent on that list.

My question would be, has he fallen off that much that the Jankess feel they can succeed without him? If they truly believe that then it's no real loss for them. If they don't though and Chapman is still a very serviceable closer, this seems like an imprudent move with a potential world series on the line.

That is still ~16 M. That offsets the benefit of Brantley coming off.

I think this offseason is going to be very challenging to replace what we lost. The good news is we're still really damn good, just maybe not 106 wins good.

Exactly, I'd force their hand and make them look bad. Because let's say, hypothetically, the Jankees lose in the ALDS, a lot and I mean A LOT, of Jankee fans are going to wonder why Chapman wasn't on the roster. Now that Chapman has done what he did, the fans won't blame the FO but the player.

I don't think their fans would feel that way given what his ERA was this year. Not like he has been nails in the post-season either.

I forgot that Seattle has destroyed Urquidy historically. He might end up being the odd man out from the pitching staff.

He got rocked his first 3 starts, but he made adjustments and had back-to-back strong starts vs them in lare July.
