This would've happened this week, likely, but Dusty just edged past Hinch in win pct. Just thought y'all would like to know that.

I'm going to need to look up the Phil Garner tie???

I'm going to need to look up "Salty" Parker. That may be the best nickname ever.

2005 game that was restarted from the beginning after rain postponement in Cincy. Called it a "tie" because stats still count. Did a double header makeup the same weekend.

Here's to lots of 25-inning games between the #4 and #5 seeds!

I'm surprised Bo Porter is not at the top of this list.

what a season for Altuve.

his double today gave him 65 x-base hits for the year in 522 at-bats --- that is outstanding

and his most x-base hits in a season since having 67 in 2017

and then Yuli...

if you had been told before the season, that he would have 40 doubles in 2022...

everyone would have thought another very good year was coming, but it was not the case.

2022 ---> 40 doubles, 8 home runs, and 82 singles in 536 at-bats

2021 ---> 31 doubles, 15 home runs, and 123 singles in 530 at-bats

Too bad thanks to our idiotic commish we have the silly runner on 2nd making extra long games less likely. Basically it punishes the teams with byes.

That rule isn't around in the playoffs.

I just looked that up. I wonder why they started from the beginning rather than resuming in the 8th inning. That seems really strange.
Not sure why this rain interrupted game was handled this way but this was quite common before WWII and the age of baseball before lights. During this time games were occasionally called due to darkness. If the game was tied at the time it was not resumed from the point it was called but replayed entirely. All stats of such a game were counted but the game itself did not count in the standings. A couple of famous examples of this are Game Two of the 1912 World Series and Game Two of the 1922 World Series.

Extra-long playoff game anyone?

Steroids aside, Roger Clemens coming in for the top of the 16th and mowing them down was an all-time great moment.

Brad Ausmus hitting a 2-out game-tying home run to one of the deepest parts of the park was like having Machete steal home to win a World Series game.

Mets are 3 outs away from losing a game and having the Braves knock 3 off their magic number all at once. That's never happened before.

I'm usually so deeply invested in to the Astros I don't go nuts watch the rest of the playoffs, but I'm pretty pumped for this NL slate.

Winner of Padres - Mets get the Dodgers and whoever lands the last split likely loses the the Cards for a Cards - Braves NLDS. I could see any of the 5 teams (not Brewers or Phillies) make it to the WS.

I wonder if there has ever been a team spend so much in season money and player capital two years running like the Padres only to get jilted. Because they would be big time underdogs against the Mets.

While reading the first part of the post I was thinking Rangers or Mets.

MLB.com is showing Philly's magic number is 2 though they are 2 up with 3 to go and went 4-2 vs the Brewers. Shouldn't the magic number be 1?

I think it's more of the buzzsaw that is Atlanta. They're a damn good team and they're getting hot at the right time.

They're scary

the Mets have a payroll between $275 MM and $300 MM --- it will be great to watch them lose in the playoffs

Hopefully we win the ALCS in 4 or 5 so we can sit back and watch the fun in the NL

There is a possibility that both NY teams will fall short of 100 wins. Da Jankees are at 97 but get the Rangers at the end. The Mets are at 98 get the Nats.

Da Jankees were at one point being pushed as having a shot at 120. Yeah that's a swing and a miss.

Hold your horses the season is not over and they have not updated the stats to account for inflation

The Yankees were really good through June and then really struggled in July & August. They were back to being good in September.

Would really love to see the Rangers IBB Judge every single time he's up for 4 games.

Or when no one's on base, throw pitches 50 feet over his head, or roll them along the ground.

Here is a nice example of why power even with strike outs trumps singles. This is why the 22 Judge vs 87 Gwynn was easy to me.

This is why Dubon plays CF for JV per Dusty.
