They correctly recognize that Altuve's bat has been phenomenal this season (4th in all of MLB) with an oWAR of 6.5.

I guess it just matters how much credence you give to their defensive assessment. Altuve is tied for 5th most errors amongst 2nd basemen, and baseball reference loves Semien's range factor and fielding percentage.
A large part of Pena's WAR number is attributed to his defense too.

first...both Altuve and Semien hit in the leadoff spot. Which makes the offensive comparison much more relevant. .917 OPS vs. .746 OPS. The #1 thing their teams want from them...is to kickstart the offense every night.
second...I would take the Jeff Kent defense. If my second baseman provides a .917 OPS, I don't care if he's Roberto Duran "hands of stone" out there. We'll figure out how to make it work

Doesn't he play LF? If we start Mancini in LF at any point, then Hensley has got more speed than Trey.
