Yankees have 3 game series versus Orioles and then 4 games of BP in Arlington remaining. They might not lose another game. Astros have 3 versus Tampa's pitching staff and then 3 versus the Phillies fighting to make the playoffs. Another reason trotting out less than best lineup versus Arizona was stupid.

Then again the '19 WS showed the lack of any real value in having the home field advantage.
If you're worried about the first seed still, then I don't know what to tell you. Some of you people are real buzzkills.

Win a ring and no one will care

I'm still not over 2019.

Verlander, Cole, Grienke. And you can't win at home.

Yeah who figured the manager that was too p**** to shut down the trash can banging was too p**** to throw Cole back out to close out Game 7. Starts to make sense now

Certainly possible but not an easy task winning seven games in six days even with four against the Rangers.

Did I just imagine the Astros sweep against the Rays a week or so ago? Neither the Rays nor the Phils are playing particularly well at the moment.

Not sure why you are fretting over postseason seeding if actually believe the 'Stros will lose out and the damn Yankees will win out at this point.

Funny you bring up '19, this was the last time the Astros had a seven game losing streak.

IMO winning this year would make up for 2019 to me.

Does it suck to not win one that year? For sure especially since I was in the stadium for game 7. That was rough and still is.

But winning it all this year would erase that for me.

Magic number is 1, right? So we just need to win 1 game or Yankees lose 1 game.

Why should we be worried?

With the Rangers' pitching staff, Judge might break Bonds' record after all.

I also heard on the radio that Dusty doesn't plan any more days off for starters after last night due to the 5 days we'll get to rest prior to ALDS. We're fine

Agreed. I was at two of those four losses and it sucked. As well as Game 6 last year.

Just win it this year and the rest evaporates into the mist of history.

I've been at a lot of wins too, including Game 6 of the 2019 ALCS.

But no, as of now I have not looked for playoff tickets.

I was talking about Beau

he's the cooler

especially if he was at the 2019 ALDS Game 6 (the spot where things started to come unraveled with the Taubman getting fired domino first falling)

the Twins (76-79) gambit failed.

paid Correa $35 MM for 2022 and missed the playoffs.

now they have to wait for his return or opt-out decision

I'm on board with the Rangers' staff getting real petty and walking him every time. They're gonna lose anyways so whats an extra baserunner

this is strange.

20 years later...now the national media wants to say Bonds' 2001 season doesn't count.

very confusing and contradictory

I like Judge and have enjoyed the chase. But I do agree with the spirit of this. For the people claiming it's the "clean" record, I'm like, Aaron Judge is 6'7 and like 280. Whether he's never taken anything or not, he has more in common with Bonds and Mac than he ever has Roger Maris.

This date in Astros history, how very far we've come!

September 29, 2013: The Astros conclude the worst season in their history with a 5-1, 14-inning loss to the Yankees that completes a team-record 15-game losing streak and a 51-111 season, their first as an American League entry.

It was so long ago that both the A's and the Rangers won 90+ games.

We finished 45 games behind the A's.

Chris Carter struck out 212 times.

Our four-man outfield rotation was Brandon Barnes, J.D. Martinez, L.J. "Bros Before" Hoes, and Robbie Grossman.

Jason Castro was an All-Star (18 HR, .276 Average, .835 OPS)

Altuve was 23 years old

The only one of our pitchers with a winning record was David Martinez, who went 1-0 in 4 games out of the bullpen.

Dallas Keuchel, Lucas Harrell and Erik Bedard combined for a record of 16-39.

Lost 15 straight from September 14-29.

Shutout 14 times.

Peaked too early, going 1-0 in March.

July-September, went 21-59.

Lost by 5+ runs 34 times.

4-15 vs Oakland, 2-17 vs Arlington.

Gave up 10+runs 15 times, including 19 to Cleveland in April, in a game we trailed 14-0 after 1-1/2 innings.

speaking of off-days...

here's reason #10,581 why the WAR metric doesn't make sense or is misleading or both.

according to baseball reference...the 5th best position player in the American League this season is...

Marcus Semien (5.7 WAR)

lol what?

he's had a disappointing year. And was just awful in the 1st half while the Rangers were trying to stay in contention. He's had a great (and meaningless) September to clean up his numbers.

Altuve is not in baseball reference's top 10 for the American League.

so according to WAR...the Astros would have been better off in 2022 with Semien as their second baseman

You can't beat Wrigley. I went to see the Stros there for 3 games in '96 (whoop) and 3 more in '07. I'd say perhaps even more than Fenway, it is the epitome of feeling like you're watching baseball in America and time stands still.

On my trip there in the 90s I sat next to a kid who was from Wisconsin and it was his birthday and he told me that Scott Servais was his favorite player. I told him that was a terrible choice and he should pick someone else.

Looking at fWAR it's high but not nearly as high. He's listed as the 3rd best in baserunning. That gives him a huge boost for WAR. he's also solid on defense and still above average on offense.
