This website is really something else...some of the trades I've seen proposed here are laughably awful...this one is nuts.

Nationals get:
Brown
Diaz (AAA catcher)
Leon
Chas
King Tuck
Urquidy

Astros get:
Soto
Bell
Doolittle
Lara (RHP from the minors)

And here I thought Scherzer and Turner to the Dodgers was one of the craziest trades ever.

I 100% would hate having Doolittle more than Soto, from a dbag perspective

Houston 790 this morning came up with a hypothetical of H Brown, LuAce, Chas and K Lee headlining a package for Soto. Each said they'd do it for sure. I guess I probably would too, but I don't think it's a no brainer.

H Brown and LuAce is 2/5 of a good rotation that's controllable for a long time.

I'd have a hard time doing that because you'd think we'd be looking for Luis to pitch meaningful playoff innings this year.

Whatever trade it may be it'd have to not include anyone we're expecting to contribute this year.

Hell to the no. Very rarely does selling the farm for one position player ever pay off. I'm out on that.

I'd be okay with that trade package. As long as Framber, Javier, and Urquidy can hold it down for the next 2-3 years that's a good deal.

However, I think you'd have to sign a starter in the off-season to make your rotation.

Also adds 20 million in salary to the team while net losing 2-3 roster spots

Yea. I'd be willing to give up one of H Brown, LuAce, or Urquidy if it means landing Soto... but not two.

Agree that giving up LuAce is not ideal, but I think we've got enough depth this year to make up for it. Soto and Castillo are the only two guys I'd even consider including him in a package for. His controllability through 2025 is so nice.

The argument for doing that trade would be that's not selling the farm.

Luis is part of the rotation. Chas is as expendable as they come. Lee is a backup catcher. Moving Brown would sting.

I don't like giving up both LuAce and Brown. I think you could make a package work though. Build it around Lee, Leon, and one of the big league arms (Urquidy, Javier, or Garcia).

That is your #1 and #2 prospect along with a young controllable arm that's well above average.

Different sport but way back in the day I was listening to Charlie Pallilo on 610 when a guy got on the air and said they Rockets (pre-titles) should trade Hakeem to the Celtics straight up for Dino Radja. Next thing you heard was the dial tone and Charlie saying to his producer, "What have we talked about with letting idiots get on the air?"
Pahdz

Charlie Pallilo was at 610 pre Rockets titles?

You could be mixing it up with when guys would call thinking we could trade Cuttino Mobley and Kelvin Cato for some superstar of another team that NOBODY would ever trade.

I think you've got to look at it as how much do you improve with Soto vs. whoever's place he's taking vs. how much are you likely to lose with who replaces who you trade for him.

Soto can't play CF, so it's not like you can roll into the postseason with this amazing Mike, Soto, Tucker, Yordan OF/DH combo. You're still playing Jake and one of those guys is on the bench (which is criminal).

Lee is a career .258 minor league hitter and it's not even certain Lee will be an everyday player. His prospect ranking is more of a result of the C position sucking across the league than him being a stud. Anyway he's certainly no Sal Perez or Realmuto and I don't think we'd cry over losing him.

I agree that you can't give up Brown and Luis. Odds are that's 2 bona fide top of the rotation guys. Assuming Yordan can keep playing a good bit of LF, does Soto over whatever other corner OF we can pick up improve us more than whatever 2 SP take the place of Luis and Brown? I doubt it. Zero guarantee that JV comes back to the Astros and/or that he'll still be insane CYA JV if he does. I think a lot of factors have helped him this year, but the bottom line is that he's old and what he's doing is a miracle. He's going to get paid a ton and will fall off the cliff at some point. I'd rather gamble on the futures of Luis & Brown at bargain basement prices.

PS - I think Chas is underrated. He's gotten Dustied and should have never had to fight Siri for playing time. I think he's a legit MLB CF who can hit 25 bombs and play solid defense. We can afford to lose him, but I don't think he's the scrub he's made out to be. He's a WAY better player than Marisnick, who somehow everyone loved. I seriously think there's a lot of latent homosexuality towards Jake. If you look at his numbers, would everyone still love him if he had more of that Chas UPS driver look to him?

if this is true, you'd say goodbye to Hunter, Lee, Leon and Barber plus Luis Garcia and maybe Urquidy

How many other players are sleeping on their couches tonight after doing the double, triple, and quadruple take when Kate walks by as their wives shoot laser beams?

What team would give up all that? You're effectively mortgaging the future of your franchise for two years of Soto.

They won't get it. If you are only renting for the short term until he becomes a FA you are gutting yourself for 1 player. And only LAD or NYY can afford the FA contract he wants.

Yankees or Dodgers who can just write checks to any FA and not have to worry about restocking a farm system.

I think it said some combination of those things. I'd imagine you'd get a decent discount on what you'd have to send in return if you take on Corbin's remaining $$. What a horrible deal that was for them.

Honestly, I'd consider taking Corbin if it meant we could get Soto for a lighter prospect load. It's possible our nerds can fix Corbin.

He'll be throwing a no hitter in his first start like Aaron Sanchez in 2019.

Well this is the good thing about having a crappy farm. Of our top 4 prospects, Brown is the only one I think can be a difference maker. Toss in an Urquidy and one of the CF and we are ready to party.

More seriously, the only way I see a remote chance of this is if the diagnosis on Uncle Mike is poor.
