Forrest Whitley threw 6 different pitches in 2.2 innings tonight in Sugar Land. He didn't throw a single pitch more than 24 percent of the time. He hit 96.3 MPH and generated 10 whiffs on 30 swings

And good for Odo who complimented Korey Lee behind the plate and also gave credit to his team for bailing him out. Knows he's playing for a winner and a playoff check but could be trade bait or odd man out come August.

Not a great AB for him but Sparky said he's hitting .400something in his career as a pinch hitter. He is literally the best active pinch hitter in baseball.

Back to the game and thinking about Maldy and what Jimy Williams said years ago about Adam Everett (and his weak stick): "there's a lot of RBI's in that glove."

You could say the same about Maldy and his arm (and head and the way he handles pitchers).

it's true. It's really hard to quantify what Maldy is "worth". Like Shane Battier before they came up with plus minus & those stats. You knew he was very valuable based on how the team played better with him, even though the stat line didn't look great.

He's got a .650 OPS since the beginning of June, which isn't Johnny Bench, but it's totally enough when you consider the rest of our lineup and what he brings to the table behind the plate. He just can't go back to hitting .090.

Maldy has stepped nicely into the Correa vocal leadership void. He might be the best catcher in MLB at figuring out hitter tendencies and making adjustments. His contribution and importance to the club is immeasurable and invaluable. Yordan is team MVP rn cuz of his insane stats but Maldy isn't far behind imo.

When he decides to hang it up, I hope we give him a blank check to be our bench coach.

He had an 0.79 ERA over his last 4 starts before the injury and granted its only 4 starts, but he was pitching as well as anyone in the rotation.

The way injuries go, odds are we are going to be down to five healthy starting pitchers (including him) at some point before the year is out and I think it's smart to keep on giving him chances and keep him stretched out unless his performance is just so bad that it can't be justified.

Good win today. When you don't get your tenth quality start in a row good to know you can just outscore the opponent
