AL Standings:
The AL #1 Seed gets a bye to the ALDS where they face the winner of ALWC#1 and ALWC#2. This is looking increasingly more likely that WC#1 and WC#2 will be salty AL East Teams (right now Toronto and Boston).
AL #2 Seed (currently Houston) gets a bye to the ALDS where they face the winner between the Division winner with the worst record and WC#3. This is looking increasingly more likely to be the winner of the AL Central (right now Cleveland).
Doesn't matter if the Blue Jays have a better record than the Astros. Doesn't matter if the Blue Jays have a better record than AL Central Champ Guardians/Twins/White Sox.
The path of the #1 Seed is looking much tougher than the #2 Seed this year. I wouldn't be surprised if this format didn't favor the #2 Seed most years.
Astros have a nice lead(?) of 7.5 Games back of the Yankees for the #2 Seed and 6 Games ahead of the Guardians.
Just win for now. But the #2 Seed looks like the best situation for October.
