yes, the Angels have to turn things around quickly or the division race will be over soon.

the Astros have 2 more weeks of bad teams...and then the tough 9-game stretch vs. the Mets and Yankees.

that's LAAA's window to close the gap

and maybe the Angels will wake up and realize they don't have the luxury to start Ohtani every 6 games. He's thrown 47 innings this season.

by comparison...Urquidy has thrown 51 innings and Big Luis 48 innings

Correa came across as a leader, but I am not missing him as much these days. Click made the right move on this one!

Edit -- I still do miss the 97 mph throws to first, but Pena is holding his own in the field as well.

When doing my stats, I just saw Correa was out on the covid list. Man, that dude is cursed. He can't get a massage or even breathe air without something going wrong. I feel sorry for him with the illness and injury bug, but that makes me even more thankful he is gone. You can't offer a dude like that big money. Pena will continue to get better in every aspect and I truly believe he will take over the leadership roll at some point as well.

Ballpark dimensions had a great pod on the Mets. They put the ball in play and bad defense happens. They've had a bunch of games vs the Nats, Phillies, & Giants. They may be overrated due to it since they're pitching is so depleted.

He's doing more than holding his own. He's arguably been the best defensive SS in the bigs this season.

Indeed he is...irrelevant but interesting tidbit that they share a birthday. I guess it's because Correa came up when he was 20, but it seems like Pena would be more than 3 years younger than Carlos.

the Twins and Correa have a great game of cat & mouse going on.

I think the Twins expect Correa to opt out.

but Carlos is not having an all-star (or $35 MM) season...OPS of .751 and missed 19 games already.

could the 1st place Twins deal him before the deadline? to avoid being on the hook for another $35 MM next year

How do player options work for players getting traded?

Would a team want to trade for a mediocre Correa knowing that if they acquire him they could be the ones on the hook for the $35mm next year if he opts in?

I think the only way he's traded is if he heats up but the Twins fall out of contention. I don't think either of those happen.

At the end of the day I think with all the power in his hand the Twins are stuck with him.

Teams inherit the contract but there could be a clause about something in the event of a trade (like escalators or options converting to guaranteed money). In that case, I think the unknown for Correa has to be part of the math, though they could ask for a negotiating window to negotiate a new deal.

Yeah that's what I'm assuming and I completely agree.

We're seeing exactly why Click didn't want to give him this kind of deal and give him all the power. Twins are completely at his mercy.

Dusty clearly has a bias against Chas. He refused to play him over Straw and even though he's played better than Siri, he won't play him more.
