I like Jake Meyers, but I'm always surprised by how many are assuming he'll be an instant upgrade when he comes back. We have a very small sample size of him and he hasn't played for a while.

I love Yuli, but he can't keep doing what he's been doing. He has the ability to get hot and recover, but if this keeps up, I really hope Click looks to add options at first. I'm trying to see who would make sense. Maybe a Trey Mancini?

He might not be. He's far from a sure thing. I like him best if the 3 as a prospect. Even if he isn't, like you said, he'll be an improvement from Siri.

Who would we be willing to give up for Josh Bell? (just using him for an example).

I don't want to give up Hunter Brown. I think he's ace material.

Siri doesn't have much if any trade value. I would obviously be okay with giving up one of Chas or Jake. I could live with throwing in Leon.

Do we really have what it takes to bring him in?

Siri is fine for a 4th OFer so if Chaz or Jake have more trade value then move one of them and keep Siri.

Lot of options between those 3.

I don't think that gets it done to be honest. We know what Siri is. Bryan Abreu has great stuff but I don't think he moves the needle much. What prospects are left after those three? Alex Santos maybe? That's not a great return for Washington...at least from my perspective.

But Bell is just a half-year rental. He's good, but not great.

I think Siri has potential. Not as much for us since he will be road blocked by Meyers and Leon.

The nationals need arms so a young guy like Abreu could be intriguing for them.

Expected stats seem to be slightly broken with the balls changing. Regardless, the difference between our xStats and the league avg is still enough where there should be a big correction coming.

Yordan Alvarez caught that TED curse this year. His gap between actual and expected is #5 in BA, #4 in SLG, & #2 in wOBA. One of the unluckiest players in the league.

It is just a matter of when. Isn't nice to be unlucky and still have a top 4 record in baseball, lead the division by 5, and be on pace to get a bye thru round 1. We're doing it without our co-Ace and top CF prospect.

Also curious how much the dead balls are effecting expected stats. Thanks for posting all that. Good stuff.

As far as trade candidates go I could see us moving a guy like Solomon who has shown potential but not really busting down the door.

Big question for me is Whitley. WTF is he projected to be? Is he worth holding on to? What's his trade value?

It's going to be interesting regardless. Another concern of mine is that Pena is a rookie... He's been great and I think he's going to be great, but he's a rookie so you know a slump is coming. You also don't know how he'll perform in the playoffs. Adding another bat would help offset that.

I guess Houston is not interested in Yordan ever being a 1B. That would practically solve the issue over night. Yeah, the defense probably suffers a little, and I don't know how that balances with the production boost at the plate. At the very least, Yuli cannot continue hitting in the middle of the lineup.

Whitley hasn't thrown a pitch in 3 years. There are no expectations for him and nobody wants him. Our only hope is that he has some miraculous recovery and becomes a player for us.

He's basically a lotto ticket. He's not going to fetch much in a trade. Why not sit on it and see if he develops. If not, then he doesn't. Pitching prospects are historically never a sure thing. Just compare him to Hunter "mini Justin Verlander" Brown. A nobody out of Wayne State is now dominating AAA with plus stuff.

Agreed. All seven starters should be virtually untouchable via trade. Starting pitching depth is one of our biggest strengths and it will show over the next couple months. Our ability to rotate rest and not miss a beat will pay enormous dividends down the stretch and into the playoffs. It's such a luxury.

I think with his injury history, we should be moving him to a relief role. Maybe he could find a role in middle relief that would be less taxing on his arm.

Not giving up on Yuli yet. I remember how putrid he was in the first half of 2019. Then he flipped the switch and dominated the rest of the year. Who knows if that will happen this year and I'm open to looking at the 1B rental market at the deadline if he hasn't figured it out by then. But I'm hopeful Yuli can still regain his form.

Me too. He was worse than Tyler White in 2019 then he was an MVP level player in the 2nd half.

He sucked most of 2020 and he was great in 2021.

He gets 6 more weeks of ABs to show us he's got it still. If not, Click better make the move. We have a ring to win this year.
