Where did I say there shouldn't be consequences for his actions? Multiple game suspension, kicked off the team, etc. is all fair punishment for his actions.

Should the batter press charges? No. That's absurd. The batter clearly did something to provoke the pitcher. How is that grounds for him to press charges?

Why shouldn't we play that game? You're making a lot of assumptions about what the batter said and whether he mouthed off first or not.
He was suspended two games... That makes it pretty clear he did something to provoke the pitchers actions.

He got assaulted, that's why it's grounds to press charges. There's no law about not hurting each other's feelings. There are laws about physically attacking someone. I honestly can't believe this is even a discussion.

Poor kid was just trying to trot around the bases and score a run. The pitcher randomly attacked this poor innocent kid. Poor thing, just out playing a game with his friends and was viciously attacked unprovoked.

Whatever the batter said was grounds for a two game suspension. He is also at fault.

Well legally, for one, since it's assault and battery. Whether or not he should is a different matter, but the grounds are assault and battery.

What if he had whiplash and a spinal injury? The pitcher is actually pretty lucky if there were no real injuries. This was a violent hit on a guy who wasn't even looking. Now, in that court room maybe he can come up with a provocation that justifies his response but I can't think of what that might be.

I imagine taunting is against league rules, resulting in suspension for the batter? Im pretty sure assault is against the law, and opens him up civil and legal penalties? Hopefully people could be satisfied with an apology, assuming no one was hurt?

Nope. This portion of the schedule was set before the lockout happened. Only thing that got shuffled was 2 opening series but those are being made up in late June and October
