This is not a "We should have kept Correa" post, b/c clearly Pena is more than holding his own. Does contract factor into WAR?

When is the bubble going to burst on these contracts? Incredible to me someone turning down nearly half a billion. This can't keep going that way...TV money will run out eventually, right?

2. Remember they are trying to sell the team right now, so whoever ends up buying it probably wants to know whether there's a super-long expensive contract on the books.
3. Their front office is weird anyway. Their GM and manager both had their contracts expiring in June (who does that?) and they almost didn't get their contracts renewed in time.

It really is staggering there are front offices still dumb enough to throw that kind of money at position players. Not position player, not even Mike Trout, is worth that kind of money.
I'm very glad we have an organization that has realized that.
Once you hit free agency, it only takes one idiot. Often it seems to be new ownership or a team desperate to become relevant.

I wasn't on the game thread yesterday much, but I did see JV had passed Bob Gibson and Curt Schilling in the all-time strikeout counter.
I got to thinking and had to confirm on B-R, but the Astros have had a rather unbelievable number of the top strikeout guys of all-time on their roster, albeit some not for long. Former Astros and their rank in the all-time list include:

#3 Roger Clements
#7 Don Sutton

#16 Curt Schilling
#21 Zach Greinke
#46 Andy Petitte
#58 Dwight Gooden
