Can confirm @Ken_Rosenthal’s report that the Nationals offered Juan Soto a 15-year, $440 million deal that he turned down. And as Ken said, that makes the Nationals more likely to entertain trade offers (now and in the future).

What’s required for any interested team: Very good farm system, aggressive general manager, high-spending owner who’s fine with the next two arb years (escalating from $17.1 mil for 2023, then again in 2024) AND could make a realistic effort to keep Soto beyond his team control.

Juan Soto just talked with a few reporters here in D.C. Said he’s not happy this came out because, as he put it, he’s someone who likes to keep things private. Also said it’s uncomfortable going into the all-star break but he’ll deal with it. As somber as I’ve seen him.

McCullers said he threw upwards of 40 pitches in two simulated innings, mixing all his pitches, with about 15 breaking balls. Feels confident in his stuff and his health. Astros will see how he bounces back tomorrow to determine next steps. Could be a rehab game.
