As it should have been….. riiiigghht.

Glad Altuve getting the time off to heal/rest to be honest . This team has much bigger fish to fry than All Star appearances.

Juan Soto just turned down a 15 year $440 million deal with the Nats who are now looking to trade him.

He must really want out of Washington lol

I have to think the Yankees are in on that, especially if they think they can't resign Judge. Any chance we pursue this? Probably takes our top 5 prospects to even get in the door.

I don't know that I would want to give up that much...lets hope the Yankees don't want to either. I really don't want him on the Yankees.

The Nats are between a rock and a hard place. He doesn't want to sign there and will at some point become a FA. No one will give them a Hershel Waljer level trade when they can get him for free in 2025.

Dunno about Walker but you can get a lot for 2.5 years of a top 3 player entering his prime.

Man if we got Soto we'd be unstoppable.

Don't know if we would be willing to give up pretty much our top 3 prospects for him though.
It would likely take something like Leon, Lee, Brown, Meyers, and Urquidy/Javier.

Don't think I'd be willing to pay that but I'd be open to re-working it a bit.

I wouldnt be willing to move Lee, Brown or Javier.

But any other prospect would be fine if it meant getting Soto.

Outfield upper decks have good options. El tiempo patio and Killens brisket nachos up by ultra club

Good news is that the Nationals are in the NL and nowhere close to competing so if we did decide to go all in for him I wouldn't care about helping them restock.

And I'd move anyone not named Brown for him.

We'd have to include Tucker for Soto

If Tucker has told the team he wants to go to Free Agency then I would do it.

Trying to decide between wearing my Dubon jersey or my Matijevic jersey today. McCormick jersey is a dark horse.

To me that's like trading the same player for each other.

I'm just imagining an outfield of Brantley, Tucker and Soto. With Alvarez as a DH.

So let's say we traded for him. What would be the cost? Hunter Brown, Jake Meyers, Leon, one of our catching prospects, and probably one of (if not both) Javier or Garcia. Is it worth all of that?

I don't think that would be enough. I think they'd want tucker plus prospects. Which i wouldn't do.

Any team that trades for him is going to want a deal in place before unloading the farm.

I love Tucker and it pains me to say this, but Soto is a level above.

No one objective is going to tell you otherwise.

Soto is also a major headache level above too.

by the way...his 2022 slugging % (.490) is the lowest of his 5-year career

Trading away the pieces it'd take to get Soto would go completely against the culture that's built the Astros. Don't know about you guys, but I like watching them compete for 6 years straight and don't want it to stop.

Yeah if it takes a few top prospects like the Greinke trade, sure do it. But no trading away current pieces IMO.

I personally don't see us getting Soto. I'm worried the Yankees will though

I agree.

this also spares Altuve the insane travel schedule...Anaheim to Houston to L.A. to Houston to Seattle...in an 8-day stretch

Tend to agree. You get one extra year with Tuck but he's not near the level of a hitter (though much better defensively). The Nats probably want more control though.

and speaking of the red-hot Mariners (49-42)...winners of 12 games-in-a-row...

the 'stros 3-game series in Seattle after the break is quietly gaining in importance

I see Dusty took my advice about the lineup for JV. I guess he didn't want to get cornholed by Kate.

Why not? They could just make the same decision that LA made concerning the luxury tax. Just say **** it, ignore the tax and spend whatever you want. Like the Dodgers, NYY have a media package that lets them do that.

I'll say it. These two games today and the DH against NYY are bigger than we think. Lose one more against the As and drop both ends of the DH and all of a sudden those 3 games in Seattle are massive. Given the travel Thursday night you can bank on Dusty all but giving Friday away to start with.

Get swept ij Seattle and it's a race. We have all seen their September. These games now matter a lot.

This. Plus Soto turned down a 15 year $440MM offer, I can't see them bringing in a guy that thinks that price is too low. They have a system that works, don't stray from the path.
