Who said anything about 7 year olds?

And 13.7-21.5 degree LAs are still line drives, not popouts.

Yuli is 2 for 2 as a pinch-hitter this year --- would be a good stick to come off the bench when needed.

and speaking of Pena...he needs to figure something out with regard to sliders before the postseason.

getting close to an automatic out vs. that pitch

New stats.

For all those dumb coaches and dads who said to "swing flat".

Interesting to see Altuve with one of the highest swing angles.

Siri is playing over Chas again....
Everybody gets a turn in LF!

We'll see if his recent heat in AAA comes with him

I don't have a much an issue playing Siri for a day but I would put him in CF and put Jake in LF. If you are going to play Siri okay him where he's in the part of the field where he would make the most benefit.

Random thoughts:
I posted last week that the defense was not as good as past years. Yikes, this past week was brutal.
The Angels outplayed the Astros last night. An impressive display of going away from the shift.
Sick and tired of hearing about Ohtani, but.....he really good
Pena will adapt and adjust as he sees more pitchers and their approach
Meyers throwing is not where it was, but that's to be expected. Besides that, he's been solid
My eyes tell me Yuli is on the downhill, but my heart tells me he doesn't go from batting champ to liability in one year.

2 thoughts: first, how much has Meyers played LF? Maybe Siri is more versatile there? Also, I recall the broadcast saying the LF in Anaheim is pretty big, so Siri's speed may be better suited for it

Probably after the all star break, he started hitting in the cage when the team got to Anaheim

I posted yesterday the case for Yuli so I am not completely writing him off. However, there is a pretty big difference in price and availability of a star rental SS and 1B. Even 2021 Yuli is a significant downgrade from what Bell is doing this year.

How would upgrading at UTL help more? In the playoffs, you don't want a UTL player getting important ABs. Diaz got 7 plate appearances all of 2021. Great utility guys don't exist in the role Diaz has because they end up starting and being versatile (Taylor, Bryant, etc).
That's true, and if we can get Bell without giving up studs then by all means do it, but I don't think 1b is our position of greatest need. I also don't suspect anyone is going to get brought in to supplant a "core" guy at the deadline. That's just not the organizational MO. I have been making fun of all the MLB2K type commentary lately...it's not easy to bring in a guy from outside and say, "hey Yuli you've been the heart of the team for this entire run, but father time is catching up with you, so sit your ass down". I wouldn't be shocked if they brought in another 1b or 1b/OF type, but I would be shocked if it was a guy like Bell that would become the obvious full-time starter at 1b and relegate Yuli to PH and 1b or DH once every 3 days.

If you think about the big deadline moves of this era of Astros baseball: Gomez/Fiers (big at the time), JV, Maldy, Pressly, Osuna, Greinke, all the relievers the past couple of years...you had either end of the rotation or bullpen guys getting bumped down or non-tenured position players getting bumped out. There wasn't ever a time where core guys like Yuli or Maldy got kicked to the bench and I bet we are going to ride with those guys until the bitter end unless the performance becomes truly atrocious.

I think bullpen help, an outfielder (even a 4th OF), and even a utility guy or a C with some experience if Castro is done is more likely even if their overall postseason contribution is less than Bell. I wouldn't even be shocked by a starting pitcher if it's the right guy. I just don't think we're going to get bell for Siri, Matijevic and a 27 y/o AA guy and I don't think we're in a desperate position where we need to give up a ton.

I have a buddy who just moved to Cleveland so I just booked a trip for the first weekend of August when the Astros are in town. Anyone been there before?

Progressive Field, right? Loved the town. Cleveland gets a bad rap, but Mrs. Marvin and I enjoyed the heck out of it. I'll try to dig up some of our itinerary. I know the HOF was part of it.

I think this might make a Josh Bell trade more likely. He plays both first and outfield, so he can platoon and you don't have to upset clubhouse chemistry by kicking Yuli to the curb

Can Yuli play LF? I think that most likely means Diaz out there more.

I was just up in NW Ohio for some family stuff and caught the Yanks when they got 1 hit there. It's a nice stadium but nothing spectacular. Our was a Sunday afternoon game and for some reason they only open the gates 1 hour before 1st pitch on Sunday. So by the time we got in we pretty much had to get food and go to our seats. There was still a block long line to get in at first pitch, it was crazy.

Food wasn't that great (in out group anyway) but you can bring in your own. I saw someone carrying in a large pizza box. We spend the night at Hotel Indigo, nice reasonable hotel if you need something close. If I was there with friends, I'd get the "District Ticket", $15 and comes with a beer, SRO ticket though.

Had some food after the game, BBQ after at Mabels that was REALLY good, a lot better than I expected in Ohio. Ice cream at Cathy's Ice Cream Sandwiches was really good too.
