Someone on here mentioned an Ian Happ trade idea a few weeks ago. I'm ready to go all in on that.
Cubs are out of it. Happ is controllable this year and next. Switch hitter who mashes lefties. Can play any position except SS and C.
I was hesitant a few weeks ago. But now that we've seen Dubon isn't offering much as a utility guy, Jake is further away from contributing than we thought, and Bregman/Yuli still haven't shown signs of life, Happ is basically a perfect guy to add to the roster.
I think Chas + low tier prospect might get it done. Cubs get a solid, big league proven CF controllable thru 2026.
Happ then becomes our everyday CF. If Jake comes back and reclaims the position, we work Happ into the lineup everyday in a variety of ways.
I'd be interested in Contreras too but part of me is unwilling to give up a prospect haul for him when Maldy is probably catching most of our postseason games even if he hits .114 this year.
