Love Yordan.....but I do wish he could play first base! Would solve so many problems if he had that versatility. Anyways, that's just being greedy, glad to see he signed.

Click said earlier this year that is where they want to put him long term.

this looks like a great deal for the Astros to lock up Yordan to age 31...

and not beyond age 31

What a great piece of news to see! I was just staring at Yordan's #s. On pace for 44 HR this year, what a beast.

Makes Tampa look like even bigger morons for giving Wander Franco 11 years, $182 million for 70 games and a strong ALDS loss.

Very happy.

I dunno why, but Yordon always felt like one of those that we wouldn't be able to hold onto. I think it's just because it seems like all the all star caliber players we have kept around for years are never the stacked, prototype big men players.

I wonder if it's easier to lockup young players from places like Cuba than the US or Puerto Rico.

What was the deal Tucker declined?

Off days suck but I just got my Space City tumblrs from ntouch. They're sick

Got mine too. The orange looks great!

+1 - out of the three I've ordered to date this one is the sickest! The orange was definitely the way to go

Any chance you'll make another batch? Wife was jealous of my tumbler

I would also take one if you are doing another order.

I'm guessing this Yordan deal isn't doable if we had signed Correa.

Love this FO!!

You have that quote somewhere? I thought they were hesitant to put him at first and he's looked pretty good in LF, which will also be a hole next year.

Didn't he play 1st in the minors?

I can't find it, I think it was one of the 790 interviews.

I recall it being mentioned that 1B is his intended future

He's turned out to be more than just a serviceable LFer.

I'm still shocked that a human his size can run as fast as he does.

I've seen that before too. I won't be surprised if we give him a look at 1B when Yuli is done or just keep him in LF. Good to have options.

Much less stress on the knees at 1B

He did take some reps at 1B during spring training (not the games, but during team workouts). Maybe he's been doing some work on the side during the season too.

Agreed. I think 1B would be the preference of just about everyone so long as he can field there at passable level.

Love the Yordan signing! Tuck next. And not to get greedy but would love to lockdown Framber soon as well

Looked it up.

He started out in the low minors at 1b and played it a few times in various assignments on the way up.

Our bigger contracts are staggered pretty nicely over the next few years. Yordan locked in at ~$13 while Altuve and Bregman finish out their big deals. I presume they'll both get paid a bit less post 2024, about the time when Yordan and Tucker get their big raises. Then we can stagger in Peña and hopefully Meyers a few years later.

Window: wide ass open.

It's a great deal that makes sense for both parties. After age 31, Yordan will primarily be a DH but he could pull a Nelson Cruz and make 20 million or more through his later years just from hitting home runs

I will be interested to see what they do about renewing Altuve when his contract is wrapping up. He needs to be an Astro for life.

I say you give him the Brantley type of deals until he retires. 2 years 24 MIL. I'd imagine he will go until about 2028

Agreed. I think letting Correa walk virtually assured we'll have the resources it takes to keep Altuve til he retires. With Correa on an expensive deal, we might have had to choose between Altuve retiring here and keeping Bregman/Yordan/Tucker. Now we don't need to worry about it.

Agree with the poster who said he'll probly get 1-2 year tack on deals post 2024 til it just doesn't make sense for either party anymore.
