But the difference in the potential deal with Carlos and most long term contracts is the opt out.

Things go well :
  • 99.9% Carlos opts out and gets a bigger check.
  • 0.1% Carlos just loves it here and stays

Things go poorly:
  • 100% Carlos opts in and gets a fairly big check for 5 more years.

As I've said (and others) the way we keep Carlos is an Arenado type deal (8/260 with opts outs in year 4 and 5). This is the best case scenario happening. Lets hope it plays out.
I agree that the 6 year deal/1 year opt out isn't ideal. I'd also prefer an Arenado structure with opt outs a little further out.

But if a 6/1 structure is what's required to ink Correa without having to commit 10/$300, I'm in.

I agree with pretty much everything you said. II was more referencing TexAgs ability to over react to anything and everything online.

Definitely didn't mean for it to be a dig at ya.

I've been watching too many Breg offseason vlogs and watching him train as if he's going to play SS this year.

This article right here about the Yanks/Twins trade is exactly why I never pay any attention to ESPN's talking heads when it comes to baseball. Honestly, how fragile is your ego as an organization that you have to have "The Worldwide Leader" play defense for you...

https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/33497638/sources-new-york-yankees-finalizing-deal-acquire-josh-donaldson-isiah-kiner-falefa-minnesota-twins

Specifically referencing the last sentence in the below statement as-if people haven't paid any attention to their writers/media clowns:

Good news/bad news with Meyers and McCullers.

That is a pretty significant bomb. LMJ went from this is a small chance he could be back for the WS to he'll be fine for next year to he'll likely miss opening day to hopefully he pitches this season. WTF?!

After the war they handled Meyers last postseason and Brantley's and Bergman's injury situations last season, I don't trust dusty for any reliable or accurate injury info. I'll wait till click says something. He seems to be more honest.

"Turf made Brantley's legs sore, he will be back in a few days"
*Brantley misses 15 games *

"Yuli slept wrong on the hotel pillow"
*Yuli misses almost 3 weeks*

Hopefully he's not headed for his second TJS.

At this point I think we just have to accept that LMJ is fragile and will never be a 200 inning workhorse. But I still think he can be worth his contract if kid glove him through the all star break and he balls out in the second half.

JV, Garcia, Urquidy, Javier, Framber and Odo can eat alot of the regular season innings. Crossing my fingers for a bounce back season from Odo.

I'd like to see Solomon, Whitley and maybe even Abreu get some looks in the rotation this year too.

Don't forget Hunter Brown who was tearing it up in the minors last year. Wish we had kept the lefty who was so vocal about not having taken steroids. Doubt we'll see Forest since he only had TJS last May. If rehab takes 18 months, he won't be ready til November

Couple things... First, can't believe the twins gave up that much for Sanchez. Second of all, want falafel just traded from the rangers?
Every team in the AL Central is about to set a new franchise record for stolen bases this year. Sanchez allowed 50 stolen bases in 60 attempts in 2021.

it is fair to wonder why Correa is not getting a Machado or Lindor-type contract offer from anyone.

have GM's finally realized how bad those deals are?
I thought the Os did.

Quote:

Earlier this week, the bomb was dropped on the baseball world that the beginning of the season would be delayed because owners are horrible people. As we sit here and wait for things to change on that front, Orioles fans were presented with a very interesting rumor coming from Raul Ramos.

He posted an article, written in Spanish, about how the Orioles had offered Carlos Correa a 10-year deal. He later appeared on the Glenn Clark Show and revealed that the offered was worth 44M per year in the first 2 years and 29M a year for the next 8. That would have made the deal worth 320 million dollars.

No one else really picked it up. Not sure if it was real or not.
If he was only concerned with money, he could take that. He'd also never sniff the playoffs again.
Eh, the Orioles with Correa would have a hope for a future playoff team. (Especially with a 12 team playoff) They've been picking at the top of the draft long enough now that they've got some young talent on their team and farm.

MLB "young" talent :
OF - Cedric Mullins (28)
1B - Ryan Mountcastle (25)
SP - John Means (29)
OF - Austin Hays (27)
OF - Anthony Santander (28)

MLB top 100 prospects :
1. Adley Rutschman (C)
8. Grayson Rodriguez (SP)
72. DL Hall (SP)
74. Gunnar Henderson (SS/3B)
76. Colton Cowser (OF)
100+. Jordan Westburg (SS)
100+. Heston Kjerstad (OF)

For reference, Korey Lee, Pedro Leon, Hunter Brown, Jeremy Pena and Forrest Whitley were our top 5 prospects and they didn't crack the top 100 at all.

Let's be honest, it's a major uphill battle for them to gain relevance in the AL East, but with Correa added to the above they'd at least be in the conversation for competing for a WC spot in the next 5-10 year window. They need to get to the point where they can realistically pitch themselves for FAs. A future lineup with the 2-6 spots looking something like the below would be a good step in that direction :

2 - Mullins
3. Correa
4. Mountcastle
5. Rutschman
6. Santander

I think we should have signed him over Odorizzi. Although Odo was a last minute signing because of Framber

In hindsight having Morton would be nice

Odo was a panic signing when they thought Framber was done for the year. Jake's on-field (and media) performance last year is why you don't panic sign guys. There was a reason he was still available.

Fkn made of glass lance.

Give him the Clemens treatment at this point. Just have him come in a month or 2 before the playoffs start, and hope you get good lance.

Not sure what kinda contract we could get Carlos back for but say it's a big money short term deal. I'd pass and gladly spend the money on Bauer. He's a d bag, but we could use more starting pitching.

Gross
And Bauer isn't even available. He's still under contract for the dodgers.

My bad. Thought I read somewhere they released him…. Either way with LMJ still hurt and JV returning from injury pretty obvious astros need a front end starter
Farmer1906
How long do you want to ignore this user?

He's paid like a top 50-60 starting pitcher. As long as he gets back to some kind of mix between his 18/19 self then we'll be fine with his deal.

Morton signed 1/15 last year. Quite a bit more pricey and not available at the time we were looking. He also landed a 20M 1 year extension right before he broke. B

I disagree

Astros have a wealth of starters that when paired together can get us through the regular season to let the work horses take over in the playoffs.

A 5 man rotation like this until Mid May-Early June when hoping LMJ comes back would be fine

1. JV
2. Framber
3. Urquidy
4. Luis Garcia
5. Odorizzi

You're basically just replacing LMJ with Verlander. Then when LMJ comes back you reevaluate

A) WTF was he doing when he fractured his wrist?

B) Guessing it happened recently or else why he is only now going into surgery?

I'm wondering if he couldn't get surgery since lockout prohibited them with interacting with team trainers.
