Not saying baseball ownership is a losing venture. But taking the world series champions and basically implying that they're the norm for all of baseball is stupid.
That number isn't even correct… they had a $104M adjusted EBITDA. Depreciation and Amortization are real costs as well. They're not cash costs this period but they represent cash spent in a prior period.
Really they've had $51M in EBITDA combined over the last two years, 104 this year, ($53) last year. On a payroll of $153 last year (ranked 11th). Looking at income they've lost $90M. One additional "star" player on a $25M contract and it'd have been a break-even venture the past two years BEFORE accounting for investment or capex.
Those financials don't show what he thinks they do. It may not be a bad investment, but let's not pretend owners have extra mega-contracts to hand out everywhere. If the Braves were top 6-7 payroll spenders, even their EBITDA would have been in the red.
