Having the guy who struck out 213 times last year proclaim that he doesn't understand how he's supposed to hit is pretty fantastic.3B Paul 97 said:

You could stump a lot of people with the trivia question that Andujar Cedeno once hit for the cycle.EastCoastAgNc said:July 18, 2001: Jeff Bagwell hits for the cycle against St. Louis. Meetings are done. Progress was minimal. There are four days left for MLB and the MLBPA to get a new labor deal or regular-season games are going to be canceled. They've had four days to move and there's been next to nothing -- just incremental. And that's that.

My vote is for Tucker right now
Do not believe the lie that baseball teams are not extremely profitable ventures. They are. And the financials of the Atlanta Braves, as @EricFisherSBG noted, illustrate that. A $104 million profit in 2021. A $6 million-per-game revenue stream. As a business, baseball is superb. pic.twitter.com/OXlMCdOKNn

Wait, so the team that won the World Series was profitable?!?! No ****ing way!!EastCoastAgNc said:Do not believe the lie that baseball teams are not extremely profitable ventures. They are. Sooooo were just supposed to all pretend that we understood 1/2 or any of what you just typed?Buck Compton said:
That number isn't even correct… they had a $104M adjusted EBITDA. Depreciation and Amortization are real costs as well. They're not cash costs this period but they represent cash spent in a prior period.
Really they've had $51M in EBITDA combined over the last two years, 104 this year, ($53) last year. On a payroll of $153 last year (ranked 11th). Looking at income they've lost $90M. One additional "star" player on a $25M contract and it'd have been a break-even venture the past two years BEFORE accounting for investment or capex.
Those financials don't show what he thinks they do. It may not be a bad investment, but let's not pretend owners have extra mega-contracts to hand out everywhere. If the Braves were top 6-7 payroll spenders, even their EBITDA would have been in the red.

Freeman & Correa tweets the last few days. Why are there FA signing rumblings when there is no deal? Are they getting closer than they're letting on? We're very close to missing games and the players and owners start losing money.
Those numbers are before they had a chance to cook the books to tell whatever financial story they want to tell to the IRS or anyone else.Lonestar_Ag09 said:Sooooo were just supposed to all pretend that we understood 1/2 or any of what you just typed?Buck Compton said:

Commissioner Rob Manfred, who has been in Jupiter, Fla., all week, joins the negotiations in person for the first time today. Three days remain before MLB says a deal must be struck to avoid delaying the start of the regular season. https://t.co/LaUFwe52Wj

Maybe I'm naive but shouldn't the commissioner be in most/all of these meetings if they are of any importance to the owners?CFTXAG10 said:
