So, do we want to read between the lines on what little Correa moving to catcher means? Is it just a move for depth purposes? Or he's subpar at other positions and C is where someone can be a lesser hitter? Or does it say anything about Korey Lee?
I don't it's the last item. What level of minors is Correa?
I think the move is to give him options. Apparently, he hit over .300 in High A last year. He's supposed to play at AA this year.
He's still a few years away from the bigs. The organization is likely looking at other prospects for the major league club. He may be an insurance policy for Lee in a few years, or being developed as a trade chip.
I would this is the best our farm system has looked at catcher in a while.
AAA: Lee - last first-round pick before the punishment. Looks like a legit prospect. Maybe not a star, but an above avg hitting and defensive catcher is very valuable.
AA: Berryhill - absolutely mashed last year. Went from low A to high A to AA in a very short period.
A: Diaz - the prospect from the Straw trade. He tore up low & high A.
Add in Correa and we have 4 legit prospects at the position with some upside.
