The offer is insulting to Correa. Now my concern isn't that you're giving your homegrown star the middle finger on the way out the door. That seems stupid but doesn't have much tangible impact. My concern is you are legitimately wasting time on this. Free agency starts Monday, start putting effort into plan b and move on.

It's a fair offer. He gets to continue playing for a WS bound caliber team. He gets a competitive 32M/yr rate covering him until age 32. He has preferential tax treatment in Texas.

It's obviously not an 8-10 year deal he probably wants. Maybe someone will give him that, but they may not be a contender and the tax situation could be a lot worse

It's not insulting. But if he wants a guarantee of much more, he'll need to go elsewhere because those contracts aren't how we operate

07 nailed it. It lets him know we're willing to up the per year. Get some feedback from him if he's will to accept something for less years.

I still stand by an 8 year deal front loaded with a opt out or two. That is the right mix to land him here unless someone just goes over the top and gives him 10/350.

People are comparing the 10 year deal to guys like Pujols and Cabrera and to me that's not a fair comparison because their deals end after they turn 39 or 40

I dont think paying a 36 year old Correa in the year 2031 will cripple the franchise like some do. Especially given he will likely be in his prime for at least 6-7 years of the contract

Cripple? Maybe not.

Hinder? Probably. Not many effective 36 y/o SS's in the game. Not many 32+ y/o effective SS's in the game, period.

Our system wants peak years only. Makes sense.

I say offer him guaranteed 6/200M as BAFO. At year 4, he can opt out and pursue another contract if desired at age 31. May be worth it given the inflationary environment for him to have the ability to test that.
