Much to my pleasant surprise his #1 was Bregman. I asked who his top non-Astro was and his response was "La-Pina's Brother" that one came out of no where.

I proceeded to follow up with who would be his top 5. His first response "well certainly not any Yankees" (that's my boy)

Major League Baseball has postponed spring training games through March 5. Which was obvious, of course, but it's now official as the league prepares to start meeting with the MLB Players Association on Monday as collective-bargaining negotiations finally start to ramp up.

I might be too optimistic but I think by next Friday, the tune of this thing is way different and they will be close to a deal. The fact that they are meeting every day next week is encouraging, and I think with the pressure on, they finally start to make progress.

Ben is right numbers wise. The reality of what Ben is saying is wrong - the tweet is correct.

MLBPA pretends like it is for all MLB players, but in my estimation, the ones who see the most benefit are the guys who stand to make multiples of millions. When guys like Scherzer are reps, it really is millionaires vs billionaires and they don't really care about the guy on their first contract. Evidence is their willingness to back track on getting guys to free agency sooner - I thought that was one of their biggest gripes and they folded on that like a cheap tent.

will be scrambling to find a team, get to spring training, and be ready to play opening day

Agree that it helps us but at that point he'd be smart to sign a short deal (3-4 years) worth a ton of money per year rather a 1 year deal.

The 1 deal puts him SOL if he gets injured or has a rough year. The short term deal gets him the big pay day but also an out to test market while still in his prime.

Also keep in mind teams will be scrambling to fill out rosters. It is a 2 way street. I can think of millions of reasons why it would be okay if it meant missing a few games.

So do we call him The Godfather? The Don?

MLB & the players’ union are expected to meet this week, starting with a session at 1 pm today at Roger Dean Stadium (spring training home of the Cardinals & Marlins) in Jupiter, Fla.

MLB’s stated preference is 4 weeks of spring training & thus wants a deal by the end of Feb.
