the "Babe Ruth" answers are from the kids that don't watch baseball

First one threw it out and next 3 followed as they don't know anyone
I should have mentioned this wasn't the order they were given in. Babe Ruth answers were scattered as I recall. But yeah, I would imagine those kids aren't real up on current players.

The Babe Ruth answers might make more sense if they watched the Sandlot recently.

Discussed this with my son on the way to the lake house this afternoon:

Much to my pleasant surprise his #1 was Bregman. I asked who his top non-Astro was and his response was "La-Pina's Brother" that one came out of no where.

I proceeded to follow up with who would be his top 5. His first response "well certainly not any Yankees" (that's my boy)

1. Bregman
2. L. Gurriel
3. Correa
4. Trout
5. Tucker

In addition to being an actual DB, Chandler also looks like the guy that would throw out a "do you know who my dad is?" in college…

Well...multiple sessions is encouraging because at 15 mins per session it's gonna take a lot of sessions to get this figured out.

Yeah, that tweet sounds like Ben doesn't know what a millionaire is.

Instead of the lockout talk, how about this?

If you could change one thing, just one thing, in Astros history, what would it be?

I couldn't decide, but I'd be curious to see other responses.

1. Pulling ZG in the 2019 WS
2. 1986 versus the Mets
3. Letting Nolan go in free agency

I would love to go back in time and visit the Astros time line in which there was a Game 7 in '86.

1. But I would have done that totally different. Pull ZG after 6 shutout and a 2-0 lead. Give Cole the 7-8th inning

I might be too optimistic but I think by next Friday, the tune of this thing is way different and they will be close to a deal. The fact that they are meeting every day next week is encouraging, and I think with the pressure on, they finally start to make progress.

Ben is right numbers wise. The reality of what Ben is saying is wrong - the tweet is correct.

MLBPA pretends like it is for all MLB players, but in my estimation, the ones who see the most benefit are the guys who stand to make multiples of millions. When guys like Scherzer are reps, it really is millionaires vs billionaires and they don't really care about the guy on their first contract. Evidence is their willingness to back track on getting guys to free agency sooner - I thought that was one of their biggest gripes and they folded on that like a cheap tent.

If the players making $500k a year aren't millionaires, then the owners making $100M a year aren't billionaires.

one thing about this lockout...the free agents that did not sign before it began (including Correa)...

will be scrambling to find a team, get to spring training, and be ready to play opening day

I think the lockout actually helps our chances of keeping him. It might be smart for him to sign a 1 year deal with the Astros and then test the market again next year if the lockout extends far enough

Agree that it helps us but at that point he'd be smart to sign a short deal (3-4 years) worth a ton of money per year rather a 1 year deal.

The 1 deal puts him SOL if he gets injured or has a rough year. The short term deal gets him the big pay day but also an out to test market while still in his prime.

that's what I'm thinking too.

one year contract with the Astros...and hit free agency again next year
Farmer1906

I do t think he'd be forced to ever signs 1 year deal.

Worse case is someone gives him 3/100 with a 1 year opt out.

[All the kids are shouting Pick Me! So Ralph and Bart can choose their teams for their own softball game]

Ken Griffey Jr.: Pick Me! Pick Me!
Ralph: I pick Ken Griffey Jr..
Bart: Aw, geez. Okay, I pick, Milhouse.
[Wade Boggs walks by]
Ralph: Hey Mr. Boggs, will you be on my team?
Wade Boggs: You got yourself a player. [He goes over the fence]
Bart: Damn. Okay, I pick. Lewis.
[Jos Canseco walks towards the boys for the game]
Ralph: I'll take Jos Canseco.
Bart: D'oh!

I would guess they would be okay missing opening day if it gives them time to get the deal they want.

Also keep in mind teams will be scrambling to fill out rosters. It is a 2 way street. I can think of millions of reasons why it would be okay if it meant missing a few games.
