Does the dumbass truly not understand playing in a brand new stadium and understanding the batter's eye, depth perception, etc.? Does he really think fans are stupid enough to just think they aren't swinging in the cage and instead just sitting there twiddling thumbs? Cage time is different than BP.

Now, is that the only reason for the Astros' struggles? No. But I think it contributed.

Whew - just caught up on the thread. So great! And the regulars came with the big lumber TOFA/AOFA! Nice work!! I posted around page 2000 and had to walk away - had a couple ice cold takes and should've known better. This is the team that scored 7 runs in the 9th inning last series. The team that scored something like 23 runs with 2 outs last series. The team that beat Boston 3 games in a row, including 2 on the road, to move on to the WS. Didn't give up tonight either. Knew we could chip away!

This is such an awful take.

Yeah, there is no difference between bp in a generic indoor batting cage and bp at the plate of a stadium you have never played in and getting a sense of the background to the pitches.

He really does seem to hate his job.

Pretty obvious he never played baseball. Seeing the ball off the batters eye in field Bp is huge.

I can't get enough of maldys bases loaded AB vs minter. He wants to bury the cutter in on righties so he just stood in the plate and dared him to go inside and hit him.

If he doesn't think it's important, can he explain why literally every team takes BP on the field? I mean, why drag out the rolling cage and screens and all the other crap necessary to take BP on the field if getting cuts in the cage are just as effective? Over the last decade or so baseball has shown the complete willingness to buck tradition and do whatever the number/analytics say. If there was no benefit to taking BP on the field (or possibly even more benefit to taking BP in the cages), I guarantee you at least one team would have already done so.

As it was, the guys were stepping into the box to see 90+ coming at them from a completely new backdrop, including both the batter's eye and beyond. No wonder everyone looked just a tad bit off. Get one day of BP and all of a sudden the offense goes back to doing exactly what they had been doing. But sure, I'm sure there's no connection there at all.

That was a savvy vet move from a guy with big brass nuts.

Just an absolute professional AB.

These guys are the reason we still have a shot at a title.

They hit in cages? Really? LMAO. Does he really think people are upset about not getting BP on the field because they didn't get to hit at all? Nobody cares about that, it's about the batter's eye, the mound, stadium backgrounds, etc. If he doesn't know that, I don't know what to tell him.
