I remember it being a big deal in 2005, but this team is not nearly as soft as that one was.

They don't seem to care if open or closed. Was there even any "anonymous" reporting that players were mad about this decisions? Seems much ado about nothing. (Even though it should be 100% team decision not Manfred).

Its one of those things where fans care much more than the players.

Here's some quotes from before the 2017 WS from guys still on the team:

"In addition to the elevated noise level, right-hander Lance McCullers, the Astros' Game 3 starter, said he felt more comfortable with the roof closed.

"That's how we play most of the games here," McCullers said. "We're very used to it. I definitely think it's part of our home-field advantage. … We're very accustomed to it, which is I think why a lot of the guys want it to stay the same."

" Third baseman Alex Bregman reiterated his teammates' thoughts at a news conference. He said there was no doubt in the team's mind what their decision would be, if the decision was theirs. Later, when Bregman arose to depart the conference room, he leaned into a microphone and repeated that the roof should be closed."

I'd guess they feel the same way today too.

At the end of the day, it's not a huge deal. This team still plays anywhere and plays well. I just wondered why people want something the players do not.

So I think Jose Siri bringing his energy might be an unsung hero in this postseason. He seems to fit in to this team really well and he brings that Tatis style energy

For sure. His effort on the infield hit and then going first to third (setting up error and score) in Machetes single, were big moves! He needs to calm down a little at the place as his the other at bats were overly aggressive, but I love the dudes energy. Even on the bench the dude is just our hype man! Let the kids play!

So any debate anymore of greatest Astro of all time? Biggio or Altuve

It's an off day so could be fun to revisit

A few months ago I was riding hard on the Altuve train and he just keeps hammering big homeruns. I dont think it's an argument anymore

That's for all playoffs. World Series game 1 was a dud for ratings;

Quote:

Tuesday's Braves-Astros World Series Game 1 averaged a 6.1 rating and 10.81 million viewers on FOX (11.08M across all Fox platforms), up 20% in ratings and 17% in viewership from Rays-Dodgers last year (5.1, 9.27M) but down 16% and 11% respectively from Nationals-Astros in 2019 (7.3, 12.19M).

Atlanta's win tops only last year as the lowest rated and least-watched World Series opener on record.

Kind of sucks they're calling it a "Juan Soto". Former Astros have been doing it for longer I'm pretty sure.

As a combo, Altuve and Correa are infinitely better than Biggio and Bagwell. Bags and Bigg couldn't get out of the first round their first 4 trips, and they would not produce more often than not. The Altuve/Correa combo has gotten to 5 ALCS, 3 World Series, and 1 championship. There is no debate over which combo is better.

Same with who is the better Astro. It's Altuve and it's not even close.

Yah, but Soto is only 23 years old, his ability to book flights at that age is elite

100% agree. To me, that's what we most miss about Springer. Now granted, Springer was a boss too, but he kept things light even in tough times. The energy and leadership helps keep people from feeling they have to press.

He could sneak away for at least one game and everyone knows it... plenty of resources in Houston he could use and he can jet in and back on the same day on a private plane. I think he either wants nothing to do with the team or the team wants nothing to do with him... personally, I think it is the latter.

If only the team ha plays for had trainers, pitching coaches, catchers, or even a mound he could use.

I 100% get that he's rehabbing to be ready to go, and I do wonder if he showed up if it would end up being a distraction, but somewhere along the way it would've been nice if he even showed up.

Biggio and Bags will always be my favorite Astros. Was at A&M during that time and they were on TV almost every day. They were so friggin good!

But they choked in the playoffs over and over... Altuve is definitely the best Astro ever and has the ring (soon to be rings) to prove it.

Well if he can't come himself, he should send the next best thing ... both of them.

I wanted him to show up a long time ago, particularly to help mentor the young guys on this pitching staff. I am just over it now and suspect that the distraction component is very real and he is not really welcomed.

I don't blame the guy for wanting to spend time rehabbing with his family, especially with young kid at home but I do blame him for not making any effort whatsoever to support this team and the players.

Maybe back in the box since Urquidy likes to work up in the zone more with his 4 seam? Looking at Pederson's heat map too, he favors pitches outside and in the lower half of the zone. Might've been just a big timing adjustment for him.

It's possible. And for the record I'm not arguing the legality of it it's like a lane violation in the NBA nobody cares or calls it. I've just never seen someone that far back and as I mentioned the pitch before he was a solid 8 inches further back which is what sparked my interest

Don't know if it's his standard approach or like you said some SP only type adjustment.

Gotta go with Alvarez - Tucker - Brantley. Love the energy Siri brought and McCormick is formidable but the astros lineup would not be the same without the patient Brantley. Plus he's as clutch as they come. Unless there's some serious mistakes made in the outfield there's no way I put any of those three on the bench.

I agree, this is what you need to do and plan to bring in Chas or Siri as a defensive replacement later in the game.

I'd like Siri coming off the bench as a potential late inning runner for Brantley or Maldonado
