I agree, but the Nationals were actually a better team that season. They got off to a terrible start but from June on (or so) tied the Astros for best record in the majors. Atlanta is hot and anything can happen, but I don't think they are as good as that. Unfortunately the Astros may not be as good as the 2019 version either.


Just looked it up, they had a slightly better record the second half and better splits.

Astros - 40-31, 367 RS/298 RA
Braves - 44-28, 370 RS/255 RA

So since the expansion to three divisions in each league, there have been only four season in which both teams with the best record in each leagued advanced to the World Series (1995, 1999, 2013 & 2020) There have been 11 seasons in which both teams with the best record did not advance, including this season. And finally 12 seasons in which the Pennant winner of one of the two leagues did not have the best regular season.
