Looks Maton's recent improvement can be tied to him throwing a new kind of slider beginning in the playoffs

Horrible take by that deadspin article. Who were the 100-win teams that didn't make the playoffs? Giants, Dodgers and TB all made it in. Sorry if you've got to win from there.

Heck I don't even think there's a team with a better record that got bumped from the playoffs this year by a division winner.

So here is some sobering news - If MLB rotates the umpires in the same pattern as the league series, guess who will be handling home plate for a potential game 7?

Below are the assignments for game one. In the LCS each umpire moved one click up to the assignment above them on the list after each game.

HP Chris Conroy 2 WC, 2 DS, 2 LCS
1B Tom Hallion (CC) 10 DS, 5 LCS, 1 WS
2B Dan Bellino 1 WC, 7 DS, 1 LCS
3B Ted Barrett 5 WC, 12 DS, 9 LCS, 4 WS
LF Mike Muchlinski 1 WC, 3 DS, 1 LCS
RF Alfonso Marquez 2 WC, 11 DS, 5 LCS, 3 WS
Reserve Ron Kulpa 1 WC, 12 DS, 3 LCS, 1 WS

Therefore, it appears for Game 7, Ron Kulpa is your home plate umpire. What an absolute joke MLB.

Marquez is HP for G7. Kulpa will only be behind the plate for G2, followed by Hallion in G3. Those 2 are gonna be a beating.

Kulpa is game 2.

So the world would have only been right if the Dodgers and Giants played in the World Series?

Pat Hoberg being on replay instead of on the field is frustrating. He was one of the best, if not the best umpire during the regular season. 95% accurate and 98% consistent.

Hoberg was the most consistent umpire in MLB and in the 96th percentile for Accuracy.

Kulpa was 91.8% accurate (2nd worst out of all ranked umpires) and 95.3% consistent (22nd percentile).
Hallion was 92.7% accurate (17th percentile) and 95.0% consistent (14th percentile)

the line i've seen is that the NLDS was the actual WS and the Braves just mopped up the aftermath of that war of attrition

Went to game 3 in '17, moved away from Texas in '19 so didn't go to a WS game that year. Really wanting to make the trip, maybe even to Atlanta this year.

Anyone buy tix to game 3 or 4 yet?

People write like this because it's the internet and it generates clicks. Slate and The Daily Beast pioneered this kind of writing in the political world 20 years ago and it made its way into sports.

Anybody have any luck on getting merchandise yet? All the shipping says it won't be here until middle or late November

Academy has been sold out every time I check
I went to the Academy @ 59 / Shepherd in Houston on Saturday morning and they were fully stocked with everything. It was going quickly, but they were restocking the entire time I was there. Same thing at Dicks by the Galleria. I imagine it shows sold out online, but there is availability in store.

Academy was also giving away free rally towels.

The part that cracked me up in the article was mentioned the Astros glided to 95 wins by mentioning our record against the Angels and Rays, but failing to mention our record against teams above >.500.

yep, if the Astros held serve against the real bottom feeders of the league they would've won 100 easily.

you know this is kind of what the news media, sports media, all media does.

they set (or want to set) the narrative.

but when their preordained narrative doesn't occur (e.g. Dodgers, Yankees, Red Sox in the WS)...they immediately pivot to delegitimizing what did occur.

so their original narrative cannot (or won't be) proven wrong

Didn't buy for those games, but in trying to buy for 1 and 2 I noticed it was significantly more expensive for the games in Atlanta. Not sure if it's because those games are on the weekend or if it's because the world series has been in Houston 4 of the last 16 years so many people have already "been there done that". Guessing it is probably some combo of the 2
