Cole could have come back with "hey Brett can you tell me where you get your steroids? I want to make my head bigger too"
The whole thing reminds me of this:Mathguy64 said:Harry Dunne said:That's how busting balls works. You're supposed to have a good enough friendship and thick enough skin to laugh about it and give it right back. With Gardner there's plenty to make fun of - it wouldn't have been hard. He underestimated how a high-strung whiny tenor like Cole would react.Mathguy64 said:
Why would a hitter go around making jokes about pine tar to a pitcher who obviously relied on tacky stuff to throw? That's idiotic on Gardner's part.
Yep. If you are going to do this you damn well better make sure the other guy isn't going to go nuclear. And Coke strikes me as the kind of guy who would take it badly. Especially since it seems to be responsible for his stardom. Sounds to like the Yankees clubhouse wasn't exactly lovey dovey to start with.

Not so sure about that.Noobmaster69 said:Mathguy64 said:

It only makes your head LOOK bigger. Ball shrinkage is real

The head growth isn't steroids, it's HGH.

Hell, if Verlander pitches even halfway decent in either of his starts that series, it never gets to game 7. If Tucker ran out the play when Springer hit a deep ball into center field in game 1, we would have been tied at the end. I know Hinch is everyone's favorite punching bag over that game, but he was far from the only reason we lost that series.n_touch said:Nino Brown said:
If it wasn't for Hinch's terrible decisions in 19, we'd be playing for our 3rd title in 4 years.
And if either Morton or Cole stays it's quite possible we'd be playing for 4 straight titles this year.
It's been a hell of run and let's hope the young arms keep getting better.
I get everyone bags on Hinch for that move but this is not true. Anything could have happened, changing that one thing does not guarantee we win the game

Just no way you can put Yordans bat on the bench

Any chance we could see Yordan in left, Tucker in center and Brantley in right to start?
Then get Chaz in later in the game when pitching changes and double switches come up?
Mathguy64 said:
It would have to be Yordan, Tucker in CF and Mike in RF. And I'm not convinced that's materially better than swapping Yordan in LF for Mike and leaving Chas in CF. Tucker in CF and Mike in RF scares me defensively.

It's worth ponying up if you can time it for a clinch game to witness
Paying an assload for an early game is kind of silly

That's their only option in Atlanta. The only bat we can risk losing is Maldy's and he proved why easier said than done.
That outfield combo is the only option

Brantley to Center and Yordan in left or maybe
Tucker left, Brantley, center, yordan right?

Brantley to center? You know how I know you're new? hell let's just throw Yordan in center

I know Yordan's bat is valuable and ideally you get him every AB possible but is it worth the defensive liability?
Plus would be that bad to have him come off the bench and PH for the pitcher in a big spot?
That alone can be pretty valuable.

I think he has to play, we can't carry Maldonado and the pitcher in the lineup and sit Yordan
