Cole could have come back with "hey Brett can you tell me where you get your steroids? I want to make my head bigger too"

Why would a hitter go around making jokes about pine tar to a pitcher who obviously relied on tacky stuff to throw? That's idiotic on Gardner's part.
That's how busting balls works. You're supposed to have a good enough friendship and thick enough skin to laugh about it and give it right back. With Gardner there's plenty to make fun of - it wouldn't have been hard. He underestimated how a high-strung whiny tenor like Cole would react.

Yep. If you are going to do this you damn well better make sure the other guy isn't going to go nuclear. And Coke strikes me as the kind of guy who would take it badly. Especially since it seems to be responsible for his stardom. Sounds to like the Yankees clubhouse wasn't exactly lovey dovey to start with.
The whole thing reminds me of this:

I guess steroids make your neck muscles huge too

The head growth isn't steroids, it's HGH.

yep. the dude had to be on a premier cocktail though.

the steroids will absolutely make the rest of him bigger, like his neck muscles as one poster mentioned. All muscles can and will grow on steroids, its not like it wont affect certain ones just because they arent targeted. I still contend that it is stupid that steroids are illegal in sports.

If it wasn't for Hinch's terrible decisions in 19, we'd be playing for our 3rd title in 4 years.

And if either Morton or Cole stays it's quite possible we'd be playing for 4 straight titles this year.

It's been a hell of run and let's hope the young arms keep getting better.

I get everyone bags on Hinch for that move but this is not true. Anything could have happened, changing that one thing does not guarantee we win the game
If Cole and Verlander don't implode in Games 1 and 2, that series never comes back to Houston. Hell, if Verlander pitches even halfway decent in either of his starts that series, it never gets to game 7. If Tucker ran out the play when Springer hit a deep ball into center field in game 1, we would have been tied at the end. I know Hinch is everyone's favorite punching bag over that game, but he was far from the only reason we lost that series.

Yes, I understand and never solely blamed Hinch.

But once you get to game 7, everything before that is irrelevant. You only pull Grienke for Cole even after throwing over a 100 pitches two days earlier.

There's no going back but AJ could have stopped the sign stealing crap in 17 and that team still won. And in 19 that was one of the biggest game 7 blunders in history of baseball.

I like Aj, awesome guy and great manager. But he is responsible for a lot of **** that we've dealt with. And this years club is proof none of that crap was necessary.

Cole is a dbag but he deserved a shot of shutting them down in 19 after the year he had. And nothing that happened prior in the series was relevant at that point.

Just no way you can put Yordans bat on the bench

Any chance we could see Yordan in left, Tucker in center and Brantley in right to start?

Then get Chaz in later in the game when pitching changes and double switches come up?

That's their only option in Atlanta. The only bat we can risk losing is Maldy's and he proved why easier said than done.

That outfield combo is the only option

Wasn't yordan over .500 in the ALCS? I cant see any scenario where he shouldn't get every plate appearance possible. I've got no idea how much his defensive game has progressed, but that bat is indispensable

I have a feeling there's gonna be a lot of dusty hate from this board when we are playing in Atlanta.

Brantley to Center and Yordan in left or maybe

Tucker left, Brantley, center, yordan right?

It would have to be Yordan, Tucker in CF and Mike in RF. And I'm not convinced that's materially better than swapping Yordan in LF for Mike and leaving Chas in CF. Tucker in CF and Mike in RF scares me defensively.

Brantley hasn't exactly been knocking the cover off the ball, may just be as simple as he doesn't play as much

Tucker didn't look great in CF the few times we had that defensive setup

It's idiotic. I'm shocked that MLBPA hadn't lobbied and demanded a DH across the board if for no other reason than it protects older non defenders who have big contracts.

Just make it full time.

If he is still on fire after the first 2 he will be in the field. If not maybe he comes off the bench in 3.

It's worth ponying up if you can time it for a clinch game to witness

Paying an assload for an early game is kind of silly

I'll respectfully disagree- if we are talking about Game 1. All the pageantry of a World Series opener is absolutely awesome. I wasn't in LA for the 17 title, but Mrs. Marvin and I have seen quite a few playoff series clinching wins… walkoffs are amazing, Friday night was amazing, seeing a WS trophy presentation in person would be amazing, but I like the buildup of an opening game just as much.

In terms of being there, anyway.

I mean let's be real. The leagues should look the same. Having differences is dumb.

Do these look different?

Of course they don't look different. A good doctor trained for years and thousands were invested by the owner in making sure they looked exactly the same.

Baseball owners should do the same.

Guess I'm missing the boat here because I do not like that defensive outfield. It will cost us runs.

I'm definitely not new. I've been watching this team for decades and every possible game all year.

No reason to be an *******.

We'll see how the lineup shakes out.

I know Yordan's bat is valuable and ideally you get him every AB possible but is it worth the defensive liability?

Plus would be that bad to have him come off the bench and PH for the pitcher in a big spot?

That alone can be pretty valuable.

I think he has to play, we can't carry Maldonado and the pitcher in the lineup and sit Yordan

I haven't seen anything from Yordan to suggest he's a huge defensive liability.

His bat puts so much pressure on opposing pitchers he has to play

True dat.

Yordan absolutely has to play (which means LF) and Tucker absolutely has to play. And, Tucker really, really needs to not play in CF, but in RF. Unfortunately, I don't see how you can leave Uncle Mike outa the lineup though either... but I'm don't see any other options.

Have we found out if Meyers is out for sure?

I know Yordan isn't the best defensive option we have but his offense makes him almost impossible to take out of the lineup. Ideally you'll see:

Tucker CF
Yordan LF
Brantley RF

You then have Siri and Chas for defensive replacements, possibly Meyers and Diaz too. I expect Castro to get more playing time in Atlanta but machete should start every game.
