Is Correa out, or is he still safe because he's standing on first? Could Correa have forced Schwarber to either: A. Step on first, removing the force and making Correa safe. or B. Throw to second, and risk losing the double play if Tucker beats out the throw back to first.BTKAG97 said:AustinAg2K said:
Rules question about the double play where Alvarez scored from third. If Correa doesn't run, but instead just stands on first base, can he be tagged out? I don't know if the question make sense, or not, but basically I am wondering if Correa could have avoided a double play by not running? Or at least force them to throw to second to tag second before throwing back to first (and maybe then Tucker beats it out). I guess my question is does a runner still get safety on a base they are being forced off of by a trailing runner?
If the 1st baseman stepped on 1st 1st then Correra is no longer a force and would not have to run. That's why Schwarber stopped midstep, tagged Correra, then stepped on 1st.
Added: it appeared that Schwarber was initially going to touch 1st then throw home but changed his mind due to Correra's hesitancy to run. Not sure what Correra was doing but I think it helped Alvarez score.
He is out if tagged first while on first. He is obligated to move to 2nd because of the force. It would be the same if Schwarzenegger threw to 2nd base base first and then back to 1st base turn a DP.
