Sparky calling the double play in the 7th

Just hook me up to an iv and pump this into my veins! What a call and still what an unbelievably incredible play.

And not take anything away from the play but you still have to ask WTF was Cora thinking?

MLB radio today- direct quotes:

"Welp, the Red Sox couldn't beat the Astros so Houston is headed back to the WS."

"The embracing of lovable cuddly Dusty is taking focus off how the Astros cheated the Dodgers out of a championship."

"The scandal-stained Astros are headed to the WS in search of a rebuttal to their deserved humiliation."

Similar to Marwin in 2017 ALSC.

Rules question about the double play where Alvarez scored from third. If Correa doesn't run, but instead just stands on first base, can he be tagged out? I don't know if the question make sense, or not, but basically I am wondering if Correa could have avoided a double play by not running? Or at least force them to throw to second to tag second before throwing back to first (and maybe then Tucker beats it out). I guess my question is does a runner still get safety on a base they are being forced off of by a trailing runner?

I believe because there is a force at first and second he was not allowed to stay at the base. If there had been like a bunt that was fielded and the batter-runner tagged out and Correa didn't move from first (if he missed a sign or something), he would have the ability to stay at first.

I'm no rule expert though.

Someone over on premium is big mad.

The Astros intentionally tanked 10 years in a row to draft top talent. Then, they illegally stole and communicated opponent's no signs using TV, trash cans, and electric signals. They are the Blacksox of 2017.

Astros fans should be completely embarrassed that they could neither grow their own team legitimately nor perform at a high level legitimately. But, Houstonians are so desperate for any professional sports success that they live in denial of what the rest of the sports world thinks of them.

Kennesaw Mountain Landis would have banned all of the 2017 Astros from baseball for life, taken the trophy away in a heartbeat, and maybe even revoked the franchise if a forced sale wasn't the answer.

if Correa didn't leave, he could be tagged out, even standing on first, provided the first baseman didn't step on first first. Once the ball is put in play the runner on first no longer has the right to the base until the batter-runner is put out.

There was a sorta similar play earlier in the year where Maldy made a great baseball IQ play at third by tagging the lead runner that was standing on third and then tagging the trailing runner who had touched third (and therefore forced the lead runner to vacate) and then tagged the trailing runner who had stepped off of third.

I have never wished an injury on any player, but I am not too sad about Joe. If it had to happen to someone, better it be a D-bag like him.

If the 1st baseman stepped on 1st 1st then Correra is no longer a force and would not have to run. That's why Schwarber stopped midstep, tagged Correra, then stepped on 1st.

Added: it appeared that Schwarber was initially going to touch 1st then throw home but changed his mind due to Correra's hesitancy to run. Not sure what Correra was doing but I think it helped Alvarez score.

I get that if he touches first it removes the force. That's not my question. My question is, what if he tags Correa while Correa is standing on first. Is Correa out, or is he still safe because he's standing on first? Could Correa have forced Schwarber to either: A. Step on first, removing the force and making Correa safe. or B. Throw to second, and risk losing the double play if Tucker beats out the throw back to first.

In order to not wake up the kids, I have the tv on mute and have earbuds connected to the radio feed. Sparky's call gave me goosebumps and my wife was wondering why I was jumping up and down silently on the couch.

Astros top plays of the series (according to baseball-reference championship win probability added)

1) Game 4- Castro's 2 out single in the top of the 9th to break the 2-2 tie and start a huge inning.
2) Game 1- Altuve's 2 out, 2 run homer in the bottom of the 6th to tie the game at 3.
3) Game 4- Altuve's solo shot in the top of the 8th to tie it (down 2-1 at the time)
4) Game 6- Graveman/Machete's strike 'em out/throw 'em out double play in the top of the 7th (1 out, 2 on, up 2-0)
5) Game 5- Framber Valdez induces GIDP up 1-0 with 2 on in the bottom of the 5th
6) Game 1- Correa's solo shot HR in the bottom of the 7th to break a 1-1 tie.
7) Game 4- Correa's lead off double in the top of the 9th

Where is the Tucker HR from last night? That one sealed it and gave the bullpen room to close it out
I pulled the info from baseball-reference.com. I didn't come up with the formulas or list, but it looks like, being the bottom of the 8th and up 2-0, the Astros already had a 94% win probability. Tuckers HR put it to 99% (probably 99.9% based on it stating his HR added 6% to the win probability).

Compare that to the Graveman/Maldy play. That increased the odds by 17% from 72% (T7, 1 out, 1st and 3rd), to 89% at the end of the inning.

Tucker's homer was huge in putting the game out of reach, but the Astros still had the odds in their favor without it.
