Why are the MLB home field rules the way they are? So by default the division winner has home field through the Championship Series? If two division champs play then it goes by record. I feel like it should just be based on record throughout. Or at least consistent one way or the other. Just really odd to me that the Braves, with 88 wins, have home field over the Dodgers. But if the Dodgers made the WS they'd have home field over both Boston and us, with 92 and 95 wins respectively.

I think of it in terms of the bracket seeding. Each league series game is easy to determine based on bracket seed 1-5, but once you make the World Series how do you compare an AL 2 with a NL 5?
I've been thinking about this a little and wonder what a home field would look like based on total inter league record of the AL vs NL. Sort of the spirit of the all star based one without relying on the all star game nobody cares about. In the event of a tie you could make the argument the leagues are even and the better seeded/record team should host.
