It's not the play by play guys job to provide deep insight. That's what the color commentator is for.

(I worked in radio for several years. Did some TV as well calling games. This is what we were always taught. Play by play describes the game, color commentator provides the analysis.)

If you don't like the way he calls the game, that's fine... to each his own. But I personally think he's okay.

Guest appearances from Biggio, Beltran, Berkman, Nolan eating ice cream out of a plastic helmet.

But they only show the opposing fans with they are sullen and beaten, no gratious shots of fat drunk and stupid fans throwing Tuckers homer back, when Sweet Caroline plays, we hear Still Tippin or deep in the heart. Every once in a while they flash over to Paul Wall up in suite with some Purple Drink.

Commercials for HEB, Gallery Furniture, the aquarium, Ninfas, El TIempo, whatever Nolans hot dog company was called and TImmy Chan's only

Since we're on the topic of announcers, does anyone else just really not like Robert Ford? He's a good dude, I like Steve Sparks, but I just don't like the way Ford calls the game. Maybe it's just a me thing.

I wouldn't pay shlt. I'll watch Joe Buck for free

I do think they should it like they do the YouTube games where it's a neutral play by play guy then a color guys from each side.

It's nice to have color guys who can speak on the players, storylines, tendencies etc etc that they're knowledgeable on from broadcasting them all year long.

Smoltz is good but it misses that personal knowledge to the actual team. Knows a shlt ton about pitching but he doesn't know what Framber likes to throw and how he acts hitters and what Strom works with him on.

At least a play by play guy as lol bad as Dave South was, is so endearingly bad at what he does that it makes it charming.

You would expect better than Joe Buck for playoff games.

The issue with any "national" guy like Joe Buck, Bob Costas, Gus Johnson, etc. is that they're never as knowledgeable about "your team" as you, the dedicated fan(atic) is. They're essentially catering to the casual fans that are tuning in because it's the playoffs, the big game, etc. They take the lazy/easy story lines and offer very few in-depth takes because they would lose those casual fans if they did. Since they're not going to go in-depth, once those story lines are established, they just ride them all the way into the ground (can anyone tell me how old Soto is?).
