No, I think after he had already given up two runs with bases still loaded, you pull him before he gives up a grand slam. We let him ride too long and it was clear that he couldn't get anyone out.

Hell, maybe if the count is 2-0 and the basis are loaded, you tell your pitcher the walk is cheaper and get ahead of the next guy.

I hate that attitude, but they are mashing pitches in the zone - absolutely mashing.

You can't manage yourself around giving up 12 runs and having starters give you 5 innings over 3 games

The players have to perform
I think you're missing my point. I'm managing to do everything I can to prevent Boston's elite home offense from ambushing us early, like they've done every game this series, and they did against the Rays, and they did against Cole in the WC game. Fire our best bullets early to keep them at bay and give our offense a chance to put pressure on them.

It sounds like you're advocating for "roll the starter out there and hope he gives us 5". If we had JV/Cole/LMJ to lean on, I'd be fine with that. I just don't think it's a winning strategy right now, given the state of our pitching staff and the opponent we're up against.

He faced 8 more batters after he walked Verdugo, and fell behind 7 of them. The only one he got ahead of was the only one he got out.

Apparently, it won't matter since Cora is so good at reading pitchers or whatever Smoltz said during the broadcast last night.

I honestly put some stock into that and it somewhat underlies my reasoning to get a pitcher out of the game when the Red Sox hitters start spitting on pitcher's pitches and putting big swings on pitches in the zone. They've got something working in that dugout. We can't let them settle in and get comfortable.

Can't believe this is a real headline. You're really tempting fate there, red sox fans. They are the biggest homers on the planet, speaking from living here. And they don't seem to grasp at all who their manager is. I hope the series turns here and then we can see what the 'baseball gods' think of the saintly red sox.

Let him know what you think. I did.

More than anything I've seen on the field, THIS gives me a good deal of hope that we're gonna come back and win this series.

Maybe. I honestly think it's garbage. Just don't think it's realistic to be so good at reading pitchers that you can jump on the starters at will across the WC, LDS, and LCS, of which all pitching staffs are in the top 5 in the AL, top 7 in the entire league.

I know my post is kind of sour grapes - I'm not accusing them of cheating, just amazed they've done it to some really good pitching staffs. They've done a really good job of forcing the pitchers into the zone. My point was I don't think it's Cora more than it is their hitters are actually taking good, patient ABs.

I agree that we can't let them settle in. ZG needs to brush the first batter off the plate tonight as he did to Soto in 2019.

They like their lefties at the top so ZG might be able to get them out.

Yea I hear you. They've got a collection of guys that are good but not THIS good.

Maybe they're all just coincidentally getting hot at the right time, or maybe they're just simply putting together quality ABs against a pitching staff that's struggling rn, or maybe there's something else going on (tips, signs, etc). Maybe some combination of all three.

This is the second time in four years that we've seen an Alex Cora team wildly outperform its talent level. They did the same thing to us back in the 2018 ALCS (when we had maybe our best pitching staff ever). Worth noting that their team OPS is over 100 points higher at home than on the road this year.

So if the Dodgers score more than 4 runs at home today, they are obviously cheating. Correct? Just want to make sure we're all on the same page with this.

Nope. According to the headline posted above it is retribution for the cheating Astros.

Holy **** - plane crash in Katy today of people heading to the game, and everyone survived praise God. That's gotta be a good omen for the series! 20+ people on board including a 10 year old.

Quote:

ABC13 reached out to Flair Builders, who confirmed the incident with Kent on board at the time. Two sources additionally confirm that the plane was headed to Boston for a trip to the AL Championship Series games. The destination was confirmed by DPS.

A pretty good prediction on this guy's idea on how he would target pitcher usage the rest of the way through this series.

No movement. No Castro.

Let's keep doing the same thing over and over again because the group as a whole was good enough to win a bunch of games over a 162 game season even if it's not the most ideal lineup.
