Doesn't Chazzy Fizz handle the off-speed better than Jake? If so, making this move to have Giolito makes sense.

I assume Dusty just spit on the analytics when deciding who is starting at CF
That was the argument to play Meyers yesterday. Lynn threw a record # of heaters yesterday. Meyers doesn't hit righties as well but he hits fastballs. Gio's best two pitches are the change up and slider.

Dusty is using analytics here.

Meyers vs lefty
McCornmick vs righty

Unless it's someone who's going to throw mostly fastballs.

I've been wondering all season what Click and Crane think about Dusty's decisions and how often is Dusty given "advice" based on analytics and ignored it. I assumed it had something to do with him not being extended but then we just heard rumors he would be back.

Click comes from an organization that was an early adopter of analytics and you have to assume Crane is a believer since he went ALL IN with Luhnow. I would love to know how much guidance they give Dusty and how often he resists it. If Dusty is going by his gut, he'd better be right.

I think this tweet is kind of a misnomer. Lynn throws a sinker, cutter and 4 seam. All are fastballs. Meyers is a good FB hitter. So, theoretically, he throws a FB more than 44% if the time. Giolito throws a 4 seam 44% of the time. That means more than half the time he is throwing something else. I'm with Farmer in this one. Dusty is using analytics.

Exactly.

Lynn threw 76 pitches last night. 1 changeup. 1 curve. 74 were some type of fastball.

Vs RHP & Breaking or Offspeed (no fastballs)
Meyers: .136 .205 .208
McCormick: .208 .333 .257

Neither is ideal, but Chas is clearly better.

Interesting. That really has to be a tandem start. You know you will get 5 solid out of Garcia but you also know you won't get more than 5 out of him.

Based on the match-up? Possibly.

This is interesting. I guess I would have assumed Lance again on Monday on 4 days rest. That sets up Lance on full rest for game 5 and Framber on 4 days rest out of the pen.

Love that he screwed up his bet but still lost his money since Altuve didn't go yard.

Giolito is 4th in all of baseball in swing & miss. 483 on the year, 16.3%. Astros lead all of baseball with the lowest Wiff% 21%. Kind of unstoppable force vs an immovable object here.

On the flip side, the White Sox love to beat the ball into the ground. They're 3rd in baseball in GB rate @ 46.8%. Framber is also 3rd in baseball in inducing ground balls at 70.4%. Infield defense is key today.

Am I not reading this right? Lance on Monday would be 3 days rest, and would not give Lance full rest for game 5. Lance on full rest and Framber on 4 days out of the pen is already an option come game 5.

What is holding the Phillies back? A middle of the order bat?

Quick look at the standings, 745 runs against indicates pitching

Isn't their starting pitching pretty bad? I honestly don't know but having Harper and Realmuto in their lineup is a strong start for their offense

If their front office looks at their roster and thinks their a middle of the order bat away from being WS contenders, then they deserve the 5-10 years of inevitable mediocrity that they will face.

I don't know, man. I like Urquidy in the postseason a lot. He's fearless, and he's done it in some really big games.

I kind of wish he was pitching game 3, especially if today goes the way we want.
