Why wouldn't it? The dude got a 2 year extension and throws a game or two last year, gets hurt, then disappears for the rest of his contract. I hope anyone on here didn't want or expect him back. He likely showed Cole the ropes on the sticky stuff. Whoever gets him next year will get ripped off, because he'll get lit up without the sticky stuff much worse than Cole.

That's if you consider 2 years $30mm a "big contract".

Astros certainly should have done it, but I read the comment as pertaining more to top tier free agents teams were fighting over

Wow this is awful. Hopefully this makes the rounds and those 3 *******s are banned for life. Get that **** out of the games.

I saw this on Facebook. One of the guys said there White Sox fan was drunk and hurling racial slurs against Hispanics. So, he poured beer on his back.

There may be more to this story. We only get a snippet of what happened. Either way, the optics are not good.

As a runner, you are praying that the batter got the sign that you're stealing.

Pretty awesome. Reminds me of Altuve tagging up on an infield fly earlier this year.

Wow. That's kinda crazy....guess JV may get a qualifying offer but looks like he won't be coming back.
This sounds like horse**** made up non-sense.
They double and triple downed on this. They've been around for a long time. I'd believe them.

I don't know how much drama it caused throughout the year. It's more like, we worked hard and earned this. You lived your life not on the team. Don't come back and grab the spotlight now if you can't even visit, help coach up the young pitchers, and show some support while you collect checks.

Soto, a current National, went to a Dodgers playoff game to support players that were traded away. I went over in length the way LMJ handled his recovery in 19. Tyler Glasnow got TJ in Aug and he's with the Rays now even though when he recovers he'll only have 1 more year of control. There has been talk of him getting moved too. These guys show you the ideal way to handle injury and being away from the team while still being apart of the team.

Totally get it. I'm on the fence about it. But my stance is that he is an older player, and he used this as an opportunity to spend time with his family.

All the other guys you mentioned are young and just early or earlier in their careers.

He did some great things for Houston, and put his heart and soul into helping win a WS and almost another one. No ill will. I do wish he would have been a little more involved, but I get it, honestly.

That is fair. I'm not mad at JV. Maybe mildly disappointed. I do like the current players saying thanks but no thanks at this point.

Yeah I would agree with that assessment as well. I think its best to move on as this team didn't need any distractions.

My exact feelings. You are getting paid $66 million dollars for essentially sitting at home. Not his fault he got hurt but at least try to provide something of value like mentoring young pitchers or something

Quick question on the Altuve slide: If Altuve had run into Grandal's foot and the tag applied, would the Astros have been able to say that Grandal was blocking the plate? He did not have the ball in hand when Altuve was sliding, and Altuve had to go around his foot which is clearly blocking a direct route to the plate.

I remember a big narrative around this time was that the farm system didn't have quality starting pitching. Its pretty incredible how much that has changed in 3 years.
