And Odo was absolutely not signed as a 5th starter type. He was the Twins #3 and an all-star in 2019.
But that was his role from the start. And its where he definitely is in the rotation. They may have hoped he would revert to 2019 but he's been a 5th arm and I think done that job.

That's what's he's turned out to be.

He was signed to replace Framber as the #3. That was the intention when he signed.

Obviously he hasn't performed like that and is certainly not a #3 but that doesn't change that that's what he was signed to be.

The snitch is sucking at his rehab start. While I would love to see him and get our revenge, there's absolutely 0 chance the A's are desperate enough to bring him up (unless Bob Melvin just feels like going head hunting on Astros batters).

The amount of $$ thats going to be spent (or rather that the players will want to be spent) this offseason coupled with the purported lowering of the luxury tax threshold to $180MM will make it very interesting.
Yes, yes it is. We need to be the vultures that swoop in and sign the short-term deals when they can't get what they want.

If Story is still looking for a job in late Feb, why can't we throw 2 year, 40 M at him?
His home road splits are gawdawful. Hes a product of Coors Field.
My favorite Coors Field player ever is former Orioles' #1 draft pick Jeffery Hammonds, who played for the Rockies in 2000.

62 games on the road: .275/.325/.415 slash with 6 homers and 35 RBI OPS .741
60 games at home: .399/.465/.651 slash with 14 homes and 71 RBI. OPS 1.116

What a clown show that place is.

Looking at the standings and noticed... Chicago is 25-29 vs teams >.500. Over 70% of their wins have come from teams .500 and below. A lot of that has to do with the make-up of their division, but still. They're 25-29.

In regards to spending the money elsewhere...can we dive into that a little more? Obviously, I think we all want to lock up TED and Yordan. Then what? Are there any quality SP out there worth signing to a 4-5 year deal? What current bullpen arms need to be paid?
The top arms available in 2022
Scherzer
Ray
Kershaw
Gausman
Stroman
Rodon
Thor
Gray
Verlander
Greinke

Our Bullpen
Graveman
Garcia
The top arms available in 2022
Scherzer wouldnt offer more than 3-4
Ray ehh
Kershaw no thanks, one of these injuries sooner or later is going to end him
Gausman ?
Stroman hard pass
Rodon probably higher than what we want to spend
Thor yes please, 5-7 year, something similar to McC
Gray ehh
Verlander yes at low cost 2 yrs, say 2/$45
Greinke no thanks

Our Bullpen
Graveman offer 2-3...20-30 total? maybe have to go 35-45?
Garcia offer 1 year prove it type contract, hasn't been great for us but also not bad
That's exactly what will happen for our bullpen. Give Graveman 8.5-10 for 2-3 years. Give Garcia a one or two year deal. For position players, probably sign Madly to another one-year deal to give Lee plenty of time to be ready. You already have Castro. Or maybe you just roll with Lee. You can try to sign another utility guy, but probably just roll with Diaz on the infield until Pena / Leon are ready.

But really confused why you are down on Stroman, he has a longer history of success and actually pitching a full season than Rodon. But I would also go all in on Thor. I'd also try to give Verlander a one-year prove it contract or a two year deal with a one-year player opt out.

Also don't know why you think anyone is "higher than we're going to want to spend". We are going to be in the market for a top-flight starting pitcher after we take Verlander and most of Greinke's off the books and not needing to spend outrageous sums on our outfield.

I say overpay for Correa, but.....
Pedro Leon played most of this past season at SS
Jeremy Pena has been really good since returning from a broken wrist

1. Stroman just seems like a cocky twit.
2. Most importantly, go research how he acted with the scandal.

Not so much that we won't spend big money but more with those other options listed I'd rather spend else where which makes his more than I'd want to spend. If that makes sense.

We obviously aren't doing all of those so I'd personally rather, if we don't sign CC, use that money to resign JV and go in on Thor. Then lock up Graveman and Garcia. That's a good off season in my book.

Then extend Yordan and Tucker and roll to back to back WS

I wouldn't say awful.

I'd say serviceable.

Reminds me of Raley. Effective in middle relief non high leverage situations. I wouldn't want to see him in late close playoff games but he can eat inning to bridge it to Stanek, Graveman, Pressly.

Please clarify. You don't want Correa, or you don't want to pay him?

If I am James Click, here is my offseason plan after the parade.

1. Offer Correa the biggest deal I can. No games. Here is the best we can do. He either takes it or not. 99% he passes, but at least we gave it all we had.

2. Sign Graveman. 2 year, 20 M. Mutual option for year 3. Maybe a vesting option.

3. Same deal to Pressly as an extension.

4. Go all in on the SP market. We locked up our bullpen. We feel good about the lineup. Now let's find someone to go along with Lance and Framber at the top of the rotation. I would say Thor. Give him the money Correa didn't want. 6 year, 140 M (Corbin deal) or 5 year, 118 M (Wheeler deal). Something along those lines.

5. Look at pissed-off guys late in the process who didn't get long term deals.

6. Fill in any gaps in the BP.

7. Look at giving TED a Bregman type extension. Get him his money sooner to get 2 more years on control. Take away the future hassle of arbitration.

2022 Lineup
1. Altuve 2B
2. Tucker RF
3. Bregman 3B
4. Alvarez DH
5. Gurriel 1B
6. Brantley LF
7. Meyers CF (McCormick)
8. Diaz SS (Pena and/or Leon)
9. Maldonado C (Castro)

Rotation
1. Thor
2. McCullers
3. Framber
4. Garcia
5. Urquidy

BP
Swing Starter / Long - Javier
Maton
Baez (?)
Raley
Taylor
Stanek
Graveman
Pressly

Tell me this team can't win a world series.

I just feel like he's somebody Strom would work magic with. Like Cole or Morton.

I would be surprised if Strom didn't retire after this year. I think his contract is up.

I think we'll be looking to the trade market to add a top tier starter this winter. Not the free agent market.

We've got lots of $$ to take back a big salary and lots of trade capital.

Where is this trade capital you speak of?

I don't want Siri, Chas, Jake, Lee, Leon, Pena to go anywhere.

You might want to spell it out for me. I don't see a good trade target yet either. No on obvious like Cole was.

Article from ESPN today about players having biggest progressions in the minors this year.

Focused on Hunter Brown but also mentions Jeremy Pena and Pedro Leon

We need to try and get someone like Thor, but I also wouldn't be opposed to taking a risk on Verlander/Greinke for a cheaper/shorter deal.

Give JV the QO let Grienke walk

I seriously think father time may have caught up to ZG.

He's just fooling anyone anymore. Has nothing that hitters really have to respect.

I'm interested in seeing what JV can do without sticky stuff.

From reading and watching a lot about that, it sounded like he'd been on it since well before Houston.
