We are still playing to win the division and jockey for postseason seeding. Games matter. It was a close game in September and we don't have time to let our worst starter ride it out and try to find his confidence.

He seems to think as a veteran he's earned some amount of leeway above and beyond what the stats say just because "he was feeling good". Unless you're JV, Scherzer or Kershaw that won't be the case.

The frustration is understandable. I don't think Dusty said anything wrong. Odorizzi needs to toughen up a bit.


But this does look like Dbag Chandler Rome trying to create a story.

yeah it takes a lot of discipline to answer correctly there and even though he's a veteran and should know better, he's also a competitor and it's not hard to understand why he's upset.

Peoples' judgment is also predicated on performance. JV can MF AJ right off the mound and he's just a "tough competitor", because that's how it comes off when you are a CYA winner. Odo has been pretty ordinary and those words don't play well when you haven't backed it up on the field. If Odo had a 2.57 ERA and a 10-3 record this entire thread would be championing him.

So let's be real, it's not about the comments (which are sincere and understandable) - it's about the performance not meriting the attitude.

Hopping into the discussion late. Has anyone brought up that the Rays are notorious for pulling starters after their second time through? I recall last postseason they pulled Snell when he was cruising and it was a big story. Our GM (WHO IS FROM THE RAYS) is likely implementing the same analytics with us.

The issue is that Dusty wasn't made to manage in the era of smoothing things over for the front office before the media (like Hinch, Cash, etc). He's a locker room manager. Not a PR manager.

Dusty won't be back next year. Neither will Odo if he's not on board with the organizational philosophy. We'll flip him for a low level prospect or two.

I know everyone hates him but Chandler was asking the exact same questions style as Tag and both tasted blood in the water and went for it like any good reporter should. Its not their job to play patty cakes with players its their job to get scoops and write pieces.

My brief thoughts on Odo. I am sure yall pretty much covered it already.

1. You're not that dude. You don't have that kind of role on this team. I know you're pissed. I know this season hasn't gone how you wanted individually, but kindly STFU after a big win. Talk to Dusty tomorrow. Handle business in-house before you go crying to Chandler Rome.

2. I 100% believe Dusty and maybe Click too did not properly communicate with him on how he would be handled.

3. His handling is just fine though. #s don't lie. Odo sucks the 3rd time around. Strommy hasn't fixed that. Even when Odo was at his best in 2019, he saw a major drop-off the 3rd time through.

Shockingly, I disagree.

I do think he was trying to have his brother's back but was, as usual, being attention seeking and should be savvy enough to not be baited into an argument with some nobody that could escalate a throwaway comment into actual news.

There is one "awesome" thing about Ben, and that is he dated Alexandra Daddario.

Damn...Well done

But overall Ben is a whiny insufferable SJW who likes to make everything a big deal. He loves to poke his nose in everything. He also talks like he has some clout but in reality if he wasn't JVs brother no one would know who he was or give a fck what he says.

I've been following Colt 45 - Astros baseball since 1962 and seen a lot of players come and go thru the years. Odorizzi'a vent and comments were unprofessional and his frustration should have been handled privately with Baker and Strom, not thru the media. Odorizzi hasn't performed up to expectations - and Click's comments were spot on and appropriate. In the real business world Odo's comments would not be favorable to positive team morale and probably be subjected to termination. His comments were selfish especially after a great team win and we don't need a negative influence in the clubhouse going into the playoffs.
