Hopefully Baez can get back soon and establish himself in high leverage. Smith is a great specialist and guy I want on the team down the stretch, but is probly miscast as a late inning hammer.

They wont get back anything good unless there are multiple teams after him. The Rangers would also have to pay him what he was guaranteed no matter who he plays for if they had released him outright. Whatever pittance they get from the Yankees will likely just be a hair more than the nothing they would have got for releasing him
