All those people that claimed Straw was a good OFer or an upgrade over Springer are dead wrong. He's fast and that's it.

I don't think many claimed he was an upgrade over Springer. I do think a lot have said if he got to play everyday he could develop into an above average OFer.

Who ever said straw was a better cf than springer?

Literally never read that anywhere.

People said that?
YES!

Maybe not so much on here, but podcasts, articles, and... twitter? I questioned my view on him because of it.

I feel like tucker takes a split second longer than most outfielders to get the ball out

Did a lot of people say that?

I think he can eventually be better than Springer, because of his speed. Being fast is a huge part of being a good CF.

Don't think that's the ball to judge him on though. What was the catch probability there?
xBA on that triple was .990.

It's pretty standard for him. It's almost like he catches it flat footed then realizes he needs to make a throw. When every other outfielder catches and loads up for the throw in one motion

Hmmm not sure I wouldn't want Javier to face Andrea. This is a big ish spot to try and break in Abreu

xBA on Canha's out to CF in the 1st was .670. So there he made a play that's a hit almost 7 out of 10 times. Speed counts for a lot.

The Athletic's Jake Kaplan on Crawford Talks spoke very matter-of-factly that Straw was a defensive upgrade over George.

We gonna do this all season? You did nothing to refute what I said, just tried to belittle it because hey, nuke.

He's our right fielder. Camped under the ball, flat footed, and made a mediocre throw home. If that's just what he is, fine...

But it's not good enough for an MLB right fielder.

xBA does not account for where it's hit. It may not be the best tool to use.

Blummer said that play gets made 60% of the time based on his statcast.

Fair enough, but it's a play that doesn't get made 40% of the time by major league centerfielders, right?

For as far as we've come with offensive advanced stats, a lot of fans still use the eyeball test for fielding. When a guy looks smooth and/or makes diving catches they equate that with great fielding. Straw is awkward out there but his speed allows him to make some plays that George and others just wouldn't have a chance at.

Nah the play from either where Straw needed to dive. I thought that is what was being referenced.
