A coach/manager is only as good as his players but I have to wonder if the lack of fire is directly related to our manager. The Dusty hire sated the media hounds no doubt. But we play like a 71 year old man.

Just terrible all around tonight. Not a great start by Greinke. Bullpen didn't stop the bleeding. Offenses did okay early jumping out to a lead but then never threatened again.

Disagree. Bases loaded no outs in the first and they got a single run. Oh wait, that was gifted to them on a wild pitch. Had a chance to jump them and instead had 3 Ks. All the clutch this team had years past is completely gone.

This team is what it is until it isn't. And right now that's a ****ty team. Can they get hot and go on a run? Maybe but they've show absolutely no signs of it yet.

Three years of a historically great offense doesn't turn to mush for 50 games for no reason. I just fail to believe it's a lack of crowds. There is something else here. Maybe they just don't want to play. Maybe it's the manager. Maybe half of them are hurt and won't admit it. Maybe it's a combination of them. But this isn't getting fixed all of a sudden.

This is supposed to be the final year of the wide wide open window. It's extremely disappointing to see us not come close to purr it together. The widow doesn't close next year but it's going to be more challenging without 3-4 key pieces.

I think it's a combination of a lot of things. COVID making the season weird, injuries, the cheating scandal, no fans, new manager, etc.

It's not like there's one thing we need to fix and we will be fine. The best hope for this team is to pray they get a spark from JV's return, and the baseball gods decide to wake up the bats

the Astros are 3-10 vs. the A's and Dodgers --- 1st place teams

and the 'stros are 5-9 vs. the Angels and D-Backs --- terrible 4th/5th place teams

nothing really makes sense. It's the madness of being a .500 team

part of the offensive woes may be father time.

as we've seen since the end of the steroid era, sometimes guys over the age 30 just fall off a cliff one year and never recover.

Yuli's OPS is down a whopping 163 points from .884 (2019) to .721 (2020).

Reddick's OPS is down to.672.

and these are 2 players that have played almost every game in the 2020 season

If you're talking about cheating, explain 2019, when everyone who investigated says it didn't happen. In fact, all the evidence says the Astros stopped cheating pretty early in 2018.

So you're saying sign stealing is the reason Altuve, the one who didn't use it at all, and the rest of the team that didn't use it last year or most of 2018 (confirmed by all independent sources) have been struggling... stop self-flagellating.

The much more likely answer is that the distraction of constantly answering questions about it or having to refute the stupidest conspiracy theories about buzzers and other nonsense distracted a team. The negative publicity really seems to impact Altuve, who HAS BEEN A GREAT HITTER SINCE HE ENTERED THE LEAGUE, who didn't use the sign stealing, and the negative attention messed with his focus, preparation, and maybe even motivation. Add in COVID, a shortened season, Lack of urgency due to expanded playoffs, etc. and it's a mental thing. You can tell he's lost and has no approach up there.

Get over yourself if you think the only reason Bregman or Altuve was good was because of sign stealing 3 years ago.

I think every one is discounting the lack of continuity. The main lineup has played - what? - 12 games together this year? That leads to inconsistency. In a regular 162 game season, we would be to about June.

Performance has slipped, but don't forget, injuries have decimated this club.

The Yankees went through it, and they are finally coming through on the other side. What is to say the Astros can't get hot too?

Bottom line: this has been a jacked up, injury-riddled season. The cracks are beginning to show this the club (depth, depth, depth), but they are still capable of winning against anyone each time they take the field.

Yuli is behind his full year 19 stats but well ahead of his first half 19 stats.

Bregman usually hits his stride in June and he's battled an injury this year.

No Yordan.

Altuve is the head scratcher, but like another poster pointed out, he has the longest track record of pre-scandal success.

Reddick has been on the decline anyway.

Springer seems to be getting going. Not coincidentally he has the largest incentive to get going.

It would be nice if the stats/results could conclusively tell whether or not we continued some sort of sign stealing operation in 19 but unfortunately for the fans/haters, there's just too much year to year variability in external factors from 19-20.

you know...there is an Astro hitter whose stats are fairly close to his 2019 numbers: Brantley.

and as shown last night...what sets him apart is his ability and willingness to go to the opposite field to keep the line moving. (he had 2 oppo hits last night)

so one reason for the slumping could simply be stubbornness. Guys just refuse to change their approach...and to the team's detriment

the problem for Yuli...

his 2019 season is 2 years in the rearview mirror with regard to the 2021 season. And of course he's 2 years older.

in mid-August there was talk that he could possibly garner a 3-year deal in free agency. Safe to say it's a 2-year max situation now. And the second year might be of the club option variety
