It's 3 division winners 1-3 and 4-8 are the 5 wildcards.

looking for 8 playoff teams in the American League:

2 from the west...Astros, A's
2 from the east...Yankees, Rays
2 from the central...Twins, Indians

so the last 2 spots would be among...Red Sox, Angels, Rangers, and the White Sox perhaps

seems like the Orioles, Mariners, homeless Jays, Tigers, and Royals can be eliminated now

the best of 3 series really puts the higher seeds / best teams at risk.

if the #6, #7, or #8 road team has a great closer...that just about eliminates any home field advantage

The playoffs with the new extra inning package put a premium on not getting to extra innings. I feel like those will be real crap shoots. It also nullified pen depth. I don't see many games going past 10.

I think the new extra inning rules are regular season only. Back to normal extras in the post season.

That would be so MLB. Last year they jacked around with a totally new ball in the playoffs and changed how games are played. So this year they play a totally different game after 9 innings. They just can't help themselves.

I think the Jays have a chance to be decent, even without having true home games. Those youngsters can play.

I'd like to say the Red Sox are less likely with what they've unloaded, but they'll probably still put up a good fight.
