Bill James says over the course of a season approx. +5 runs = 1 win and over but even over a full season there are always anomalies for the reasons above.

Last year the +3 Brewers finished 5 games ahead of the +97 Cubs. Big part of that was the Cubs' atrocious bullpen. Kimbrell (6.53 ERA) and Stropp (4.97) and others blew 28 saves.

What's interesting is that Toronto is near the bottom of the league in save % - worse than us! The blowouts are what's skewing the run diff. for them.

Going into last night I wasnt worried at all about us making the playoffs since it would only take 2 wins against Seattle to do it. Had we won last night we could clinch tonight with a win

After last night ... I'm very worried.

just needed to win one and the division title would be clinched. Just needed to win one...just needed to win one of three...

ended up winning zero of three, but won the 163rd tiebreaker game.

To get the 2nd spot in the West outright (no tie breakers) it's 4 against the Mariners, 3 against the Angels.

The Astros hold the tiebreaker against the Mariners, so it's really 3 against both teams.

Trash move by the A's to make him get Covid so they could get an extra home game against their rival, then turn around and cut him.

We can't seem to get big innings. Of course I'm happy with the run... but how many games have we had potential for a big first inning crooked number and only come away with 1 run
